Trick or Treating Guidelines from Braintree's Police and Mayor

Mayor Joseph Sullivan and Police Chief Russell Jenkins have announced the 2013 Halloween Trick or Treating hours as between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. Thursday.

“This is a family event and we want it to be a safe event for our children," Sullivan said in a statement. "The police will be out in force throughout the Town. The police department will have a 'no tolerance level' as it relates to vandalism and any unruly acts. Please enjoy the evening and let all of us be on our best behavior!”

Mayor Sullivan and Chief Jenkins recommend the following guidelines:

A parent or an adult should accompany younger children.

Stay in your own neighborhood.

Do not cross the street between parked cars.

Visit the houses on one side of the street and then cross at the corner to the other side.

Avoid long dragging costumes and high heel shoes.

Makeup or painted faces are preferred to masks, which may reduce visibility. If masks are worn, the eyeholes should be oversized.

Do not go alone, travel in groups and at least one person should carry a flashlight.

Do not eat any treats until you get home and have your parents check them.

Parents should disregard any treats that are not wrapped or have torn wrappers.

Residents should leave outside lights on so that children can see where they are walking.

Greet children at the door and do not encourage them to come inside.

Remove obstacles from steps, sidewalks, and lawn so that children will not trip on them. 

Please wear “safety lights” while Trick or Treating for high visibility.
