Braintree Author Tom MacDonald Wins Best First Novel at Next Generation Indie Awards

MacDonald's crime novel The Charlestown Connection was released in August 2011.

Tom MacDonald of Braintree, MA was awarded Best First Novel for his crime novel, at the 2012 Next Generation Book Awards reception held at the Plaza Hotel in New York City on June 4, 2012.

The Next Generation Indie Book Awards is the largest not-for-profit book awards program honoring the top independently published books each year. Referred to in the media as the “Sundance” of the publishing world, the Next Generation Indie Book Awards is judged by leaders in both the traditional and indie book publishing industries to help identify books that deserve to reach a wider audience.

This is Tom MacDonald’s first novel. After a long career in business Tom now works in the nonprofit sector. He received his BA from Stonehill College, MBA from Boston College, Carroll School of Management and an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Southern Maine.

Tom has been nominated for the 2012 International Thriller Awards, Best First Novel and is a finalist for the American Librarians Association 2011 Book of the Year Award, thriller category.The Charlestown Connection has been receiving rave reviews and Tom’s writing is being compared to Dennis Lehane and the late Robert Parker.
