Why my resolve to shop the independent retailer grows stronger by the day!
I try to shop local, independent stores. People are horrified when I tell them I shop at Roche Brothers supermarkets. "Wow, they are really expensive!" is the comment I always receive. But frankly, I'd much rather give my business to a smaller chain begun by two local men from Roslindale that has only about 16 Massachusetts stores rather than a mega grocery store chain where the executives all speak Dutch! Alas, when one has a 21-year-old son who will only wear a specific brand of jeans (a brand with which a small retailer couldn't possibly get a wholesale account) one must sometimes violate her own rules.
