Cops for Kids with Cancer Provides Life-Changing Assistance

Braintree resident Robert Faherty is the chairman of the local charity that funds research and helps families with kids battling cancer.

Cops for Kids with Cancer began as a group of Boston Police officers playing golf with their colleagues in law enforcement from Ireland, but it has evolved into a Braintree-based charity that provides thousands of dollars annually to local hospitals and families of children with cancer. Since the early 2000s, the group has made donations to the children’s oncology units at Mass. General Hospital and the Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center. In 2008, the all volunteer board of directors decided to provide funds to local families with children battling cancer, which are often recommended by area police departments and hospitals. Cops for Kids With Cancer Donates to Whitman Family at Braintree Police Station

The charity began as a golf rivalry between a Boston Police team and members of Ireland’s Garda Siochana.

Over the last five years, Cops for Kids With Cancer has donated $1 million to 200 families affected by cancer. On Wednesday, Tricia and Dan Raymondi, of Whitman, accepted a check for $5,000 from the nonprofit to help support their family as their daughter Jessica fights optic cancer. The Raymondi's, accompanied by their son Tom, grandparents and an aunt and uncle, received the donation at the Braintree Police Station. Organization chair Robert P. Faherty and president Helena Findlen spoke about the growth of Cops for Kids With Cancer from an annual cross-Atlantic golf tournament to an all-volunteer effort that sends tens of thousands of dollars in donations each year to families and local hospitals. Ret.Supt and Chief Bob Faherty of the Boston PD has put alot of time and effort into this "Amazing" cause. He is a Braintree Resident and one of the Founders of this "Great"cause. He has always been an "Amazing" guy. He helped Braintree Police in setting up funeral arrangements for Officer Decross and Lt Principe who were killed in a Cruiser Acc on Middle Street years ago.
