Individually, Martin Mulkerrin was the Sectional Champion at the 285 lb weight class and Dom Cataldo finished 2nd in the 220 lb weight class.
Braintree hosted the MIAA Division 1 South Sectional Wrestling Championships on Saturday. As a team, the Wamps finished 3rd in the sectional. The following wrestlers will move on to the Division 1 Individual championships on Tues. 2/19 and Wed. 2/20 at Newton South High school: 113lb Division David Tso 4th Place finish at Sectionals 126lb Division John DeNapoli 4th Place finish at Sectionals. 132lb Division Andrew Grant 4th Place finish at Sectionals. 182lb Division Shawn Donahue 3rd Place finish at Sectionals. and the 2 Braintree wrestlers who made the Sectional Championship Finals: 220lb Division Dom Cataldo 2nd Place at Sectionals 285lb Division Martin Mulkerrin 1st Place at Sectionals.
The Wamps take on Milton tonight.
The Braintree High School wrestlers beat Framingham last week to secure an undefeated season in the Bay State Carey division. They go up against Milton tonight to secure the Bay State Carey Division Championship. It would be the first time in 18 years that BHS Varsity wrestlers have won the title. Also, the BHS varsity wrestlers have just beaten the school record for most wins – 20 – this season. The Division 1 State Sectional Championships is this Saturday, Feb. 9. from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at BHS. Fourteen D1 schools will be competing for top weight class and team "crowns"! –Greg Cataldo

Braintree High School student athletes were awarded citations by the Town Council on Tuesday night at Town Hall for their success during the 2011-2012 winter season. "You gave us a really exciting season and a lot of fun," Council President Charles Kokoros said. Added Councilor-at-Large Sean Powers, "It's a show of strength and a testament to our town." Individual athletes in girls and boys wrestling and gymnastics took to the auditorium for the ceremony, as well as the girls and boys ice hockey teams. School Committee Chair Shannon Hume, member Tom Devin and Superintendent Dr. Peter Kurzberg were also on hand for the honors.
