Children’s Librarian Elisabeth Strachan will hold a Storytime at Sunset Lake Gazebo for children of all ages on Monday August 13 at 10:30. Listen to the humorous tale of "Bats at the Ballgame" written by Brian Lies, and make a bat craft. One Braintree One Book Baseball Finale August 16, 5:00 to 7:00 PM The Thayer Public Library is celebrating the finale of our second annual One Braintree, One Book right across the street from the library at French’s Common. There will be free food and fun for all ages. Come and cheer on the Princes and the Thieves as they compete in the kids’ softball game. For those ages 3 and older, if you’ve ever wondered if your pitch is ready for the majors, come try your hand at the speed-pitch machine. There will also be a craft activity, face painting, and a raffle drawing. If you haven’t entered the raffle, it’s not too late. Kids are invited to try out Zumba at Thayer Public Library. Zumba is the new fitness craze with a Latin beat. Come on Monday July 23 at 2:30 p.m. if you are age 6 - 12. Zumba basics will be taught by the amazing CiLisa, an experienced Zumba instructor. CiLisa returns to the library to show more fun moves, and convey her infectious enthusiasm for Zumba. She breaks down each dance into easy moves, so that anyone can feel comfortable and have fun doing Zumba. On Monday July 16 at 10:30 a.m., storytime will be located at sunny Smith's Beach for children of all ages. Listen to the humorous tale of Bats at the Ballgame written by Brian Lies, and make a bat of black paper. Smith's Beach is near Watson Park in East Braintree, and has plenty of parking. Bring a towel to sit on. There is a walking path between Smith's Beach and Watson Park, which starts behind the swings at Watson. “The Angel Had Purple Wings," “Little Lucy," “Disappearing Shadow," and “The Dancing Trees” are some of the stories that “Grandma Ginny” has written for her grandchildren. Motivated by the children’s love of reading, their weekly visits to Thayer Public Library, and their difficulty falling asleep, long-time Braintree resident Ginny Polio has written many short stories, rhymes, and lullabys to delight and settle down her grandkids at bedtime. Some stories are the retelling of actual events, like “Adventures with Lucky and Slimy” and “Sleeping in My Own Bed.” Others were strictly imaginary tales that appeal to children. Boston sports writer Richard Johnson visited Thayer Library to speak as a part of the “One Book, One Braintree” community reading series.
Thayer Public Library welcomed Boston sports writer Richard Johnson to the Marinelli Reading Room Thursday night as a part of the town's second annual “One Braintree, One Book” community reading series. “One Braintree, One Book” is a reading initiative in which one book is chosen as the "community read" and then partnered with events all summer centered around the book's theme. “Last year was the first time we did it and we chose Moby Dick, so we wanted to get as far away from that as possible,” joked Library Director Terri Stano.
