Starbucks Receives Outdoor Seating Permit

There will be tables and chairs outside from April 1 to Nov. 1.

Starbucks at the Hyatt Place is now allowed to set up outdoor seating in front of the store under a seasonal license issued this week by the Board of License Commissioners. The board voted unanimously on Tuesday afternoon to allow up to 16 seats in a designated area in front of the coffee shop. They will be positioned outside from April 1 through Nov. 1. Starbucks originally asked for 20 seats but moved to 16 on request from town officials due to a bathroom code. The extra seating requires two additional parking spaces, which will come from the landlord from a surplus of parking available at the retail complex. The chairs and tables will be stored off-site when not in use.

TELL US: Would You Upgrade to a Metal Starbucks Card for $450?

In partnership with Gilt, Starbucks is now offering 5,000 specialized rewards cards, etched in steel, for $450 each.

For residents in the Commonwealth who prefer Starbucks coffee above all other blends, a new offer for a holiday gift idea is now on the table. Starbucks announced this week that it has made available a limited-edition super premium rewards card for My Starbucks Rewards members, one that is etched in steel.  Unlike the shop's traditional rewards card that enables users to buy various products, the new card, which costs $50 to make, would be loaded with $400, according to USAToday.  Interested members can choose to buy one of the 5,000 available cards on gilt.com/starbucksultimate. The cards will automatically be enrolled in the "gold tier" of Starbucks' loyalty rewards program, according to a Mashable.com report. That will allow consumers …

Starbucks at Hyatt Place May Open Friday

Other businesses scheduled to open at the retail complex across from the South Shore Plaza in Braintree include Qdoba Mexican Grill, Jared Jewelers and The Vitamin Shoppe.

Starbucks is planning to open a corporate store in Braintree this Friday, though the opening will be dependent on whether company representatives are able to finalize paperwork for its food license in time. The store's general manager and a Starbucks consultant requested the permit from the Board of License Commissioners on Tuesday. They hit a roadblock when Board Chair Joe Powers noted several missing items or documentation that needed revision in their application. "You have a lot of work to do, procedurally," Powers said. After giving the two men time during the meeting to work on the issues, the board took the matter up again and approved the license, contingent on updates including a business certificate and a certificate of good …

Hyatt Hotel Developer Gets Approval From Braintree Board for Less Parking

Carpenter and Company has invested some $25 million into re-making the former Sheraton Hotel in Braintree and adding retail and restaurant space.

An attorney for developer Carpenter and Company convinced Braintree Planning Board members on Tuesday night to allow its new Hyatt Hotel to maintain fewer parking spaces per room based on a more modern and nuanced interpretation of parking codes. Members voted 5-0 to allow the hotel one parking space per room instead of 1.25 per room, based on Frank Marinelli's argument – bolstered by an engineer's study – that the scaled-down business hotel requires less parking. Overall, the complex on Forbes Road across from the South Shore Plaza will have 636 parking spaces for the hotel, retailers and restaurants. Carpenter is still finalizing tenants that will join the existing T.G.I. Friday's, as well as Jared the Galleria of Jewelry and Starbucks, …

Are the above mentioned 216 parking places just for the hotel or for the whole complex? If the spots are only for the hotel, does anyone know how many parking places in total are planned for the entire complex? When the Sheraton was open, parking was always an issue. The Sheraton used what is now part of the parking for The Ride as their overflow, utilizing shuttles between the old movie theater …   more ›
