SouthSide Tavern will mark one year in Braintree Square in March.
Since high school, when he worked full-time for an electrical company, inspired by his father's determined example, Sean Conroy has always juggled multiple gigs. He started his own printing business, went into financial advising for several years, and consistently bartended and ran bars and restaurants. Last March, Conroy and his team of local co-owners and managers launched SouthSide Tavern, a restaurant in Braintree Square that combines Conroy's vision of an open bar, wide window South Boston design with the culinary talents of Chef Danny Duarte, another Braintree native who began cooking Portugese and Cape Verde food with his grandmother. The Braintree July 4th Celebration Committee has teamed up with the SouthSide Tavern to host Game Night: Boston vs. Detroit, Thursday, May 31. All proceeds go to hosting the parade and the annual celebration. In addition to raffling off Red Sox tickets and memorabilia, attendees will be able to take in the ball game on 18 flat screens at the SouthSide Tavern. Transformed into Boston’s famous ball park, the tavern will offer a huge buffet of burgers, dogs, popcorn and fried dough with face painting for all the kids. The SouthSide Tavern on Washington Street, which opened at the end of last month, has received a suspended sentence from the Board of License Commissioners for serving someone who was intoxicated. Board members voted 3-1 on Tuesday afternoon to suspend the restaurant's all-alcohol license for one day, though SouthSide will not have to serve the penalty if it goes without violations for six months. The finding that a violation occurred will stay on its record for 48 months.
