Case of cocaine possession continued for hearing in February Patrick W. Carey, 27 of Braintree, had a charge of possession of a Class B drug continued to Feb. 21 for a hearing in Quincy District Court. The charge stems from a July 12 incident in Braintree at 12:45 p.m. when police were dispatched to the front parking lot at Dave & Busters on Granite Street for a report of a man walking around pulling on car door handles. Police confronted the suspect and allegedly found cocaine on him, police said in the report. Steven D. Hoxie, 40, of 25 Mt. Ida Road, Dorchester, had charges of malicious destruction of property over $250 and felony daytime breaking and entering while placing a person in fear dismissed in Quincy District Court. The charges stem from a March 13 incident in Braintree at 10:47 p.m. when police were dispatched to a Pearl Street residence for a report of a burglary. The victim alleged to have been awakended by a loud crashing sound and that she then saw a man in the hallway walking toward her. The man then allegedly said to the victim, "I'm sorry," turned around, and ran out the front door, police said in the incident report.

Macy's at the South Shore Plaza will remain open 24-hours a day leading up to Christmas Eve.
Macy's in Braintree will likely hire a police detail officer for its overnight hours during the retailer's "marathon shopping" weekend leading up to Christmas after town officials discussed the matter with South Shore Plaza GM Rick Tonzi. Tonzi told members of the Committee on Public Safety Tuesday night that he urged Macy's to add the shift, from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m., in addition to extra security that the Plaza itself is implementing. Councilor Sean Powers asked about the possibility of a detail after learning of the 24-hour shopping event being held from Friday, Dec. 21 through Monday, Dec. 24. Members of the Town Council's Committee on Public Safety plan Tuesday night to ask South Shore Plaza representatives about security at Macy's during the store's upcoming "marathon shopping" weekend leading up to Christmas. The committee is meeting to discuss general police updates with Chief Russell Jenkins and holiday security plans for the mall. Councilor Sean Powers, vice chair of the committee, said members will also ask about potential police details during the 24-hour shopping event being held from Friday, Dec. 21 through Monday, Dec. 24. Paul M. Bennett, 46, of 69 Fore River Ave., North Weymouth had charges of possession of a Class B drug and assault and battery dismissed in Quincy District Court. The charges stemmed from a July 23, 2011 incident in Braintree following a 911 call about a domestic assault and battery. Police said in an incident report that Bennett's son claimed his room had been "rummaged" through and that when he confronted his father about it, the father allegedly grabbed the son and put him in a headlock, while yelling at him.

Mark A. Hamilton, 27, of 62 Skyline Drive, Braintree, failed to appear in Quincy District Court for arraignment on a charge of being present where heroin is kept. A judge issued a warrant to arrest Hamilton. The charge stems from a Nov. 25, 2011 incident in Weymouth at 9:30 a.m. when police at the Super 8 Motel, 655 Washington St., entered a room where they found a spoon containing a brown residue of suspected heroin and several hypodermic syringes, according to the police report.

Court throws out third-offense shoplifting charge Joel D. Diaz-Sanchez, 33, of 2 Dunmore St., Apt. 1, Roxbury, had charges of third-offense shoplifting by concealing merchandise, receiving stolen property under $250, and trespassing dismissed in Quincy District Court.
