UPDATE: Widespread Power Outage in Liberty Street Area

BELD reports they are working on the issue.

UPDATE 10:57 a.m.: BELD reports that power has been restored. *****     *****     ***** The Braintree Electric Light Department, on its Twitter and Facebook pages, says there is a widespread power outage in the Liberty Street area and it is working to restore power as soon as possible. This article will be updated with more information as it becomes available.

UPDATE: Braintree Police Report Town-Wide Power Outage

UPDATE 8:15 a.m. Saturday: BELD reported last night that it brought crews in because of the severe weather. Just a few minutes ago they said that crews are back out and working on the outages. Earlier this morning, the Braintree police said on Twitter, "Most all roads still impassable. Driving ban still in effect. Many businesses probably won't be open. Stay inside!" As more information is available, it will be posted here and on Facebook and Twitter. *****     *****     ***** The Braintree Police Department, in a message posted on its Twitter account, reported shortly after 10:15 p.m. that there is a town-wide power outage. UPDATE: Compost Site to Remain Open This Weekend Because of Winds

An outage this morning on Church Street has been dealt with, and workers continue to address issues throughout Braintree.

UPDATE: A note from the Office of Mayor Joseph Sullivan: "Due to last night’s storms the Mayor has decided to keep the compost site on Plain Street open for the weekend instead of closing it tomorrow afternoon as originally planned." From the town website: Where is the Compost Site? Take Kendall Ave. off Pearl St., you come to fork in the road, which becomes Plain St., the road ,to the Site is to the left as you enter the Cemetery. Power Restored After Wednesday Morning Outage

Much of South Braintree lost power for about 30 minutes Wednesday morning.

A mechanical failure at one of Braintree's substations caused a widespread power outage early Wednesday on one of the coldest days of the winter. The Braintree Electric Light Department restored power after it had been off for approximately 30 minutes throughout South Braintree and as far west and north as Braintree High School. "Power was restored very quickly," Mayor Joseph Sullivan said. "These types of situations are going to happen, and the question becomes how quickly can you remedy a situation." Sullivan said he and other town officials were getting ready for their day around 7 a.m. when their cell phones began ringing, alerting them to the outage.
