UPDATE 8:15 a.m. Saturday: BELD reported last night that it brought crews in because of the severe weather. Just a few minutes ago they said that crews are back out and working on the outages. Earlier this morning, the Braintree police said on Twitter, "Most all roads still impassable. Driving ban still in effect. Many businesses probably won't be open. Stay inside!" Much of South Braintree lost power for about 30 minutes Wednesday morning.
A mechanical failure at one of Braintree's substations caused a widespread power outage early Wednesday on one of the coldest days of the winter. The Braintree Electric Light Department restored power after it had been off for approximately 30 minutes throughout South Braintree and as far west and north as Braintree High School. "Power was restored very quickly," Mayor Joseph Sullivan said. "These types of situations are going to happen, and the question becomes how quickly can you remedy a situation."
