Retirement Party For Outgoing Police Chief Paul Frazier on Saturday

Frazier retired on Aug. 17 after more than 20 years with the Braintree Police Department.

Braintree will celebrate the career and retirement of former Police Chief Paul Frazier on Saturday, Sept. 8 with a party at Town Hall. The event will take place from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and $25 tickets may be purchased by cash or check in the Town Clerk's office. No tickets will be sold at the door. The dress code is casual and more information can be sought from Jenny Frazier at 781-910-8711. Frazier first joined the department in 1980, became chief in 1993 and was re-appointed by Mayor Joseph Sullivan in 2010. Frazier earned the American Legion's “Medal of Valor” early in his career after apprehending an armed felon during a shooting incident. Sullivan Appoints Interim Police Chief for Braintree, Search Narrows to 11 Candidates

Today was Chief Paul Frazier's last day in charge of the Braintree Police Department.

From the mayor's office: Mayor Joseph C. Sullivan announced today the appointment of Lt. Michael Moschella as Interim Chief of Police upon the retirement of Chief Paul H. Frazier. “Mike is someone who I am confident will provide excellent stewardship of our Police Department as we continue the process of hiring a permanent Chief," said Sullivan. “The Town is fortunate that Mike has agreed to step up." Search for Braintree Police Chief Brings in Candidates From Across the Country

Chief Paul Frazier is retiring next month. He has been Braintree's top cop for 19 years.

The retirement in August of longtime Braintree Police Chief Paul Frazier and the search for his replacement has drawn 22 applicants for the position, including both internal and external candidates. There are several people within the Braintree Police Department who have applied, Chief of Staff and Operations Peter Morin said. He declined to give a specific number or identify the applicants. Morin also said that the external candidates come from across the United States, though most are from Massachusetts. A selection committee will begin meeting soon to examine the applicants, Morin said, with a goal of mid-August to complete the review, but with flexibility built in. Chief Frazier, Retiring, Looks Forward to Time off and Reflects on Accomplishments

Frazier has been with the Braintree Police Department since 1980 and chief since 1993.

Police Chief Paul Frazier, a Braintree native who graduated from BHS in 1973, will stay in town after he retires this summer, take care of his parents and "relax for a bit" before moving on, possibly to consulting work. Following the announcement of his retirement last week, Frazier looked back on his career and also noted that he has no definite plans yet for his future.  Frazier's retirement will be effective August 3. Frazier has been with the Braintree Police Department since 1980 and chief since 1993.

Braintree Police Chief Paul Frazier has decided to retire later this year after three decades serving the town and nearly 20 years as its top cop. Mayor Joseph Sullivan announced the retirement in a press release on Wednesday evening, saying that during his 32 years of service, Frazier has "devoted himself to making Braintree a better and safer place." Frazier's retirement will be effective August 3.
