Braintree Mayor Offers MassDOT Proposals to Help MBTA's Cost Cutting

The state has provided two blueprints for combating an MBTA deficit in next year's budget. The proposals include cuts in service and hikes in fees, and have been met with criticism from local officials and residents.

Leaning on his past experience serving on and chairing the House Committee on Transportation, Braintree Mayor Joseph Sullivan suggested several ideas on how to minimize MBTA service reductions in a letter to Massachusetts Department of Transportation Secretary Richard Davey. Sullivan planned to hand-deliver the following letter Wednesday night, Feb. 15 during an MBTA community meeting in Quincy. The meeting is from 6 pm. to 8 p.m. in the Community Room at Thomas Crane Public Library at 40 Washington St. For more information on the MBTA's cost-cutting proposals, see http://goo.gl/BLKWh or download the full version of the plans as a PDF.
