A related hearing for Four Square was postponed on Tuesday.
A young man celebrating his 21st birthday at The Landing Pub last September was served a shot of alcohol despite already being intoxicated and was later confonted by police in the Landing and ended up at South Shore Hospital. That was the determination Tuesday afternoon of the Board of License Commissioners. Members took a rare unanimous vote in an alcohol license hearing, following up their decision with a two-day penalty to be served on a consecutive Friday and Saturday, April 12 and 13. Four Square also faces the allegation that it served an intoxicated person that night, which according to police reports began with two brothers celebrating at bars in Weymouth before ending up at the Braintree establishments, where one brother allegedly…

The license board also continued alcohol hearings on two Braintree restaurants Tuesday afternoon.
Potbelly Sandwich Shop – the restaurant chain that began as an antique shop in Chicago – will open a location at the new Hyatt Place shopping complex in Braintree within the next few weeks. Representatives for Potbelly Sandwich Works, which also has shops at Logan Airport and downtown Boston, said they hope to open the store March 5. The Board of License Commissioners approved a food license Tuesday afternoon. Along with the general antique decor of the shop, Potbelly will feature local history unique to the neighborhood, in this case specific Braintree features such as old photographs of the area and memorabilia from local sports figures, New England Market Manager Eric Andreoni said. The 43-seat restaurant will be located in the same …

Two Braintree establishments face alcohol violations based on a night of drinking that left one man yelling in the street.
What started as a young man's 21st birthday pub crawl turned into a drunken argument and police investigation before landing in front of Braintree's license board Tuesday afternoon. Both Four Square and The Landing Pub face allegations that they served an intoxicated person around midnight on Sept. 14, a night last fall that began with two brothers celebrating at bars in Weymouth before ending up at the Braintree establishments, where one brother allegedly continued drinking despite being "pretty banged up." That was the testimony of Jack Twohig, the police department's licensing officer, who also told the Board of License Commissioners that witnesses indicated Four Square and The Landing Pub had provided beer and/or liquor to the …
The new owners received the OK for a food license on Tuesday.
Murray's Deli in Braintree Square is changing hands, but will offer the same kind of fresh sandwiches, salads and pizza that it has for years. Anna and Bernardi Kallco are bringing their background in running a bar and resturant in their home country of Albania to Braintree starting next month. Murray's will keep the same name and food, but will-reopen under their ownership by the beginning of February. "There will be no changes made," Anna Kallco told the Board of License Commissioners on Tuesday afternoon. The board approved a food license for the new owners contingent on an agreement of sale and the refurbishment of some kitchen equipment. "It will be a family-run business," Anna Kallco said. The current Murray's ownership could not be …

The license board penalized the restaurant for not having a manager on record and having an uncertified alcohol server.
The former Beijing Duck restaurant on Granite Street, now Mr. Chung's Asian Cuisine, was given a one-day suspended sentence earlier this week for violating the terms of its all-alcohol license. Barring further violations over the next 180 days, Mr. Chung's will not have to serve the penalty, though it will remain on the restaurant's record for 48 months. Members of the Board of License Commissioners penalized the eatery, located at Granite Plaza, after it came to their attention that Mr. Chung's was operating for much of 2012 without a manager of record after the former manager left the business last summer. The restaurant was also serving alcohol to patrons even though the two men running the operation, Tony Chung and his son Tommy Chung…

The AMC in Braintree is currently finishing a multi-million dollar project that includes new inclining leather seats, bathrooms and other features.
With a $6 million renovation project partially complete, AMC Theatre in Braintree is already seeing a significant boost in audience, especially during peak times on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Whereas an evening in early December might have meant 250 guests, recently the amount of customers has increased to approximately 700, even as the renovations mean many less seats, General Manager Michelle Norman told the Board of License Commissioners Tuesday afternoon. Norman and AMC Director of Operations Jason Walters appeared before the board to request extended operating hours on Thursday, Friday and Saturday to keep up with the increased demand. Starting certain movies just after midnight allows more showtimes, which AMC needs because they …

The license board renewed the town's various alcohol licenses Tuesday.
In the midst of both the holiday and annual alcohol license renewal seasons, Braintree officials Tuesday sought to spread a message of responsible drinking to residents and business owners. The Board of License Commissioners voted unanimously, with Fire Chief Kevin Murphy absent, to approve one-year renewals for every business and organization holding an alcohol license in Braintree, contingent on any necessary paperwork or payments being made to the town. Three license holders still owe taxes, Licensing Coordinator Annette McLaughlin said. As of Tuesday's renewal process, 30 restaurants, one hotel and six clubs held all-alcohol licenses, six establishments held wine & malt common victualler licenses, six held all-alcohol package goods …

The License Board will look at alcohol license renewals in two weeks.
Annual license renewals for all of Braintree's car dealerships sailed through the Board of License Commissioners on Tuesday, along with a vote to extend to 2 a.m. liquor serving hours on New Year's Eve. The alcohol extension – moving serving hours past the typical 1 a.m. hour – will happen on a Monday night this year. As in previous years, board members approved the change unanimously. Police Chief Russell Jenkins said he will staff extra personnel for New Year's Eve, and that some restaurants and bars could add police details. But he does not expect a significant surge of people drinking throughout Braintree. New Year's is one of the busier nights of the year, though not the busiest, and its level of activity is largely based on what …

Weekend soft rock will come to Bugaboo Creek Steak House, Jared the Galleria of Jewelry will open within the next few weeks and automotive empire Quirk Auto will have new property for dealing used car parts following the Board of License Commissioner's meeting earlier this week. Bugaboo Creek, on John W. Mahar Highway, successfully petitioned board members for a weekly entertainment license to be used on Friday and Saturday nights. Restaurant representatives said they will bring in small bands or solo acts to perform in one corner of the establishment, replacing one, eight-seat table. Jared the Galleria of Jewelry, is scheduled to open by Dec. 1 at the new Hyatt Place complex across from the South Shore Plaza, the general manager said. The…
The License Board approved a new manager for the restaurant across from the South Shore Plaza.
Braintree officials grilled the new manager of T.G.I. Friday's this week on how she will handle a restaurant with a history of alcohol problems. Longtime Friday's manager Denise Meyer recently transferred to the Braintree location, across from the South Shore Plaza, after overseeing operations in Plymouth and Hyannis. Police Chief Russell Jenkins questioned Meyer about a violation at the Hyannis location eight years ago when she was manager, while Town Clerk Joe Powers asked why the Board of License Commissioners should trust she will do a better job than her predecessors, noting that Meyer will be the third manager in four years. "I understand your hesitation," Meyer said. "I am confident in my abilities and my experience." Meyer said she…
