This Sunday: Knights of Columbus Annual Free Throw Contest

Boys and girls ages 10-14 are eligible.

The Knights of Columbus in Braintree is putting on its Annual Free Throw Contest at South Middle School this Sunday, Jan. 27. The contest is open to boys and girls ages 10-14 as of Jan. 1, 2013. Tootsie Roll Drive For Special Needs Kicks Off Today

The event is held from Oct. 4 through Oct. 7 throughout Braintree.

The Braintree Council of the Knights of Columbus will be conducting its annual Tootsie Roll Fund Drive for children with special needs from October 4 through October 7, 2012. The Knights will be at various locations around Braintree to accept donations. During the past year, the Massachusetts State Council of the Knights of Columbus, through the Braintree Council, has awarded grants totaling over twenty- five thousand dollars to children with special needs in the Braintree area. The Knights appreciate your past generosity and hope you will continue to support our drive for children with special needs. –Knights of Columbus

Suspended Penalty for Knights of Columbus in Alcohol-Related Wedding Incident

The license board held a brief meeting on the event hall's violation, stemming from an incident during a wedding reception in June.

The Knights of Columbus in Braintree received a one-day suspension of its all-alcohol license for allowing illegal activity during a wedding reception last month, but that penalty will not take effect if the club avoids further violations over the next six months. James O'Brien, the Knights' bar steward, told the Board of License Commissioners on Tuesday that the club did not dispute the allegations, allowing the board to move directly into the penalty phase. The club has also not had a violation since at least 2008, meaning this was regarded as a first offense. Just after midnight on June 17, Braintree police responded to the Knights of Columbus at 875 Washington St. for a report of a large fight, according to a police report. Several …
