Braintree Man Joins Triathlon Team to Raise Money for Diabetes Research
Christopher McAuley is part of the 2012 Tri Team for Diabetes that is competing on Sunday in the Cohasset Triathlon.
When Christopher McAuley noticed around the holidays eight years ago that his health was getting worse and he was losing a few pounds, he wrote it off to stress. But when a few weeks went by and the Braintree native dropped 40 pounds, he finally headed to the doctor. The diagnosis was Type 1 Diabetes, a chronic disease that can strike at any age and requires constant regulation of glucose levels through insulin injections and food monitoring. “It’s an immediate lifestyle change," McAuley said. In addition to being more careful about what he eats, McAuley has become what he calls a "casual athlete," running in local 5K and 10K races to support various causes, such as the Run for Charlotte.
