The Miniature Housing Market is Doing Just Fine

Dollhouse Treasures on Washington Street proves that miniature houses are not just toys for little girls anymore.

When Dollhouse Treasures owner Mary Anne Carley left her career as a social worker, she went to design school to become a florist. But then life took a different turn. She started making food pieces for a friend's dollhouse and enjoyed the craft. With a dollhouse kit of her own and a few tools, she discovered a real passion. When she got frustrated trying to find items for the house, she took matters into her own hands. "I never had so much fun in all my adult life," Carley said of her store, which just hit its 21st anniversary. Miniature houses have become a popular hobby – a serious hobby - and not only for children and adult women. A significant percentage of her customers are men, Carley said.
