Derby Academy Graduates 45, Including Braintree Student

Derby Academy Holds 221st Derby Day Exercises.

On Friday, June 8, 2012, Derby Academy celebrated its 221st Derby Day Exercises. The 205th Derby Lecture from the pulpit of New North Church was given to students, faculty, trustees, parents and guests by the Reverend Dr. Nancy S. Taylor, senior minister and CEO of Old South Church in Boston. During the Derby Day ceremonies, 45 members of the Class of 2012 were honored for their time at Derby Academy. Head of School Andrea Archer and President of the Board of Trustees Walter Sullivan ’79 awarded and presented, respectively, diplomas to the members of the graduating class, including Braintree Resident Emily Barron. Students From Braintree Celebrate College Graduations – June 20, 2012 Edition

This edition includes Becker College, Western New England and George Washington University.

The following college students from Braintree recently graduated from college: George Washington University Juliana M. DiBona, daughter of Dario and Patricia DiBona of Braintree, graduated from George Washington University in Washington, DC with a bachelor’s degree in international affairs, concentrating in international politics and Europe and Eurasia. She also minored in English and theater. Juliana completed her education in three years, graduating summa cum laude May 20 with special honors in international affairs for her senior research paper which explored the international and domestic factors leading to the current Italian financial crisis. Grad Speakers Urge Braintree High Classmates to Hold Memories Close, Prepare for Future

The Braintree High School graduation ceremony was held on June 2, 2012.

Poor weather did not dampen the spirits of the Braintree High School Class of 2012 on Saturday. Family, friends, teachers and local officials packed the gymnasium, roaring with support for students heading off to the military, retiring Headmaster David Swanton and the 360 graduates themselves. "Take comfort in the fact that there is always something new to learn," Salutatorian Margaret Reagan said in her address. "Take what you have learned these last four years and expand it. Carry your BHS pride with you wherever you go." The Class of 2012 just missed setting the record for the highest percentage of students going on to higher education, its 91.7 percent second only to last year's high-water mark for the past six decades of 92.7 percent…

Norfolk Country DA Boosts Prom and Graduation Safety with Drug Confiscation Grants

District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey was at the May meeting of the Braintree Community Partnership on Substance Abuse.

Norfolk District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey has awarded Braintree “Project Prom Sense” and “Operation Graduation” grants of $250 each again this year, funding food and supplies for the pre-prom event organized to keep high-schoolers safe on the night of the dance and BHS’ substance-free graduation party. “We know that providing prom-goers and new graduates with alcohol- and drug-free alternatives cuts into the pressure to drink on those nights, and increases the odds they will avoid taking chances on the road or elsewhere later on,” District Attorney Morrissey said. “I am pleased to support Braintree’s commitment to making this a safe prom and graduation season again this year.” Morrissey also awarded Braintree two $250 grants for the …

Graduation Ceremony Tomorrow Moved into Braintree High Gymnasium

The ceremony starts at 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 2 at Braintree High School.

Braintree High School Headmaster David Swanton posted the following on the school's website about Saturday's graduation ceremony: "With the impending weather and the continued field preparation at Alumni Stadium we will be holding commencement exercises for the Class of 2012 in the gymnasium on Saturday June 2nd @ 3:00pm. This will allow everyone to plan accordingly and we can focus on our preparations. Students will receive their four tickets today at graduation rehearsal for guest entry to the gymnasium on Saturday. The auditorium is available for viewing of a live telecast of the graduation ceremony on a first come first serve basis – no tickets are necessary. 2012 Braintree After School Enrichment Preschool Graduates Put on a Show

B.A.S.E. is a child care program located in Braintree that provides learning and play for children in preschool through grade 7.

Preschoolers from Braintree After School Enrichment danced and sang to "Born this Way," "Bees, Bees, Bees," "Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better," and other tunes on Wednesday evening at Town Hall as their family and friends celebrated the students' graduation.

Fontbonne Academy Graduates Challenged to be Courageous by Braintree Speaker

Seventy-two members of the Fontbonne Academy Class of 2012 participated in the 55th Commencement Ceremony on Thursday evening.

At Fontbonne Academy’s 55th Commencement Ceremony on Thursday, May 24, the 72 graduates were prompted to be courageous by a member of the Class of 1962 and challenged by their classmates to make an impact on the world. Braintree resident Joan Garrity, Ed.D., R.N., carried on the Fontbonne Academy tradition, which began in 2008, of the graduation speaker being part of the 50th Anniversary Class. Garrity, who graduated from Boston College of Nursing in 1966, went on to earn Masters of Education from Northeastern University and a Doctorate from Boston University. She informed the graduates that none of her achievements, professionally or personally, would have been possible without courage. “Fontbonne has taught you to be women of courage,” …

Fontbonne Academy 2012 Graduation Includes Braintree Speaker

Seniors Caroline Murray and Kayla Stravin as well as Class of 1962 member Joan Garrity will speak at Thursday's graduation ceremony

Fontbonne Academy will host its graduation on Thursday, May 24, at 6 p.m. on the Fontbonne lawn. The traditional white tent is already up, and students and families have a busy week, including the Baccalaureate Mass and awards evening on Tuesday, May 22, and Class Day and luncheon at Lantana’s with the Learning Community on Wednesday, May 23.  The graduation itself will begin with a procession of the Class of 2012, followed by honored guests and 50th reunion alumnae, the Class of 1962.    Honors Speakers, who must have a 3.5 GPA or above and submit a portfolio to a committee for rigorous selection, will address their graduating class.
