Overtime Win Wednesday Night Moves Braintree Girls Hockey into MIAA Semi-Finals

The Lady Wamps pulled off a miracle on ice, part two.

Braintree to Woburn at five in the afternoon – you better have a good reason to make that journey. On Wednesday night, the moms and dads, brothers and sisters, the friends, the teachers, the coaches and all the fans did just that to witness an outstanding performance by the Braintree High School girls ice hockey team against #1 seeded Acton-Boxboro in the quarter finals of the MIAA tournament. The Wamps showed their usual aggressive play and tenacity as they quickly went at Acton-Boxboro nearly scoring early in the game. But Acton-Boxboro skated hard and fast and with about five minutes gone in the 2nd period held a three-goal lead over the Wamps, who outside of a couple of attempts hadn’t really tested the opposing goalie. It wasn’t until…

Girls Hockey Shuts Out Winthrop, Moves to Quarter Finals vs Acton-Boxborough

The Lady Wamps play next on Tuesday, March 6 at the Stoneham Arena.

She and the rest of the Ashland-Medway team said that’s exactly what happened on one of the Winthrop goals. The MIAA stood by the referee’s call that the laser did not affect the outcome of the game and the results will stand. But that story was …

Braintree Girls Hockey Advances Against Arlington

The Lady Wamps play Winthrop next on Saturday, March 3.

The Braintree High School Lady Wamps faced off Monday night in their preliminary round playoff game against the Arlington Spy ponders. Both teams came out hard and ready to play. Only 44 seconds into the first period, freshman Haley Payne scored her first high school playoff goal, tipping in a hard shot from the point by Senior Captain Jessie Hasson. Lauren Connelly also assisted, giving the Lady Wamps a 1-0 lead after one period. With nine minutes left in the second period, Junior Kiley Swain, ripped a slap shot from inside the slot putting the Wamps up by two goals. Senior Michaela Collins shot one in from a feed out, but the goal was waived off after the buzzer. Frustration set in as Arlington could not get one past Junior Rachael …
