Braintree Girls' Basketball Advances to Sectional Semifinals

Braintree beat Stoughton 70-46 Friday night in the Division 1 South Sectional quarterfinals. The Wamps advance to the semifinals.

The Braintree High girls' basketball team is now just one win away from getting to defend its Sectional Championship from a year ago. The Wamps beat visiting Stoughton 70-46 in the quarterfinal round of the MIAA Division 1 South Sectional Tournament, played Friday night at Braintree High.  Stoughton (14-8), the 10th seed in the tournament was trying to knock off #2 Braintree, the highest remaining seed left in the tournament, but instead the Wamps (22-2) will advance to play #11 Wellesley in the Sectional semifinals.  Braintree beat #18 Quincy 69-24 in the first round on Wednesday, and while the win over Stoughton was by 24 points, the Black Knights were no easy out.  Stoughton kept the game close throughout the first half, and even when …

PHOTOS: BHS Cheerleaders, Girls Basketball and Hockey Seniors

Braintree sports photos from recent senior nights and a cheerleading tournament.

The Braintree High School cheerleaders, at a tournament Saturday at Bristol Plymouth Regional Tech, took first place by default when the competition didn't show. Last Wednesday night was the last game the seniors on the BHS girls varsity basketball team would play at BHS. There was a special ceremony held to honor the seniors who will graduate this year. They beat Needham 53-33 that night. The boys ice hockey team held its senior night last Tuesday and beat St. Peter-Marian 8-2.

Braintree High Girls Basketball Schedule Changes

The game scheduled for this Thursday has been moved to Monday.

The following notice was sent out Monday morning by Braintree High School Athletic Director Michael Denise. The Braintree girls basketball game originally scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 7, hosting Needham, has been moved to Monday, Feb. 11 at 7:15 p.m. The Freshman game will be played at South Middle School – 232 Peach Street at 3:45 p.m. The JV game will be played at East Middle School – 305 Rivers Street at 3:45 pm.

Braintree Girls Topple Natick, 54-44

Natick led the Wamps for most of the first half, but the Wamps' athleticism was too much for the home team in the end.

The Natick girls basketball team fell to Braintree last night, 54-44, in a game that was a tale of two halves. "We're all about the little things," Braintree coach Kristen McDonnell said after the win. "We pride ourselves on defense. We pride ourselves on defense. We didn't do that early on. We can't just turn on our offense without those things." With the loss, the Red Hawks fall to 5-8, while the Wamps improve their record on the season to 13-2. Natick led for most of the first half. The Red Hawks came out running, putting the pressure on the Wamps. Junior guard Katie Anderson drove down the lane and scored to extend Natick's lead to 11-8 at the 4:20 mark in the first quarter, and shortly thereafter senior Lauren McCall (14 points) …

Braintree is among more than 40 teams from across the country competing in the 2013 Spalding Hoophall Classic.

The Braintree High School girls basketball team lost 51-42 to a team from Springfield, OR at a tournament at Springfield College Friday night. Molly Reagan was named Braintree's Most Outstanding Player. Braintree High Offering Fan Bus for Girls Basketball Game in Springfield This Week

The varsity girls team is playing a squad from Oregon on Friday.

The 10-0 Braintree High School girls varsity basketball team will play another dominant team later this week, and will travel all the way to Springfield College for the match. Their opponent, though, has a much longer trip. The Lady Wamps will take on the Millers of Springfield High School – Springfield, OR – on Friday, Jan. 18 at 6 p.m. They are among more than 40 teams from across the country competing in the 2013 Spalding Hoophall Classic, an event that promotes itself as a showcase for the nation's top high school basketball talent. To help fans get to the game, BHS is offering a bus for students. It costs $20, which includes the $10 ticket. Braintree Youth Basketball is also offering a fan bus, for its participants and family members…

Braintree Girls 9-0 After Victory Over Fontbonne Academy

The girls play next on Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Needham.

A strong showing from guard Ashley Russell helped lead the Braintree High School girls varsity basketball team over Fontbonne Academy 54-31 Wednesday night. The Lady Wamps, ranked No. 1 by ESPN, are now 9-0 on the season and play Needham next Friday evening. Fontbonne (No. 12), falls to 7-1. Russell led Braintree with 17 points and nine rebounds, according to an article on ESPN Boston. Molly Reagan had 10 points and eight rebounds and Brianna Herlihy produced 7 points and 7 rebounds. PHOTOS: Braintree Girls Basketball Remains Undefeated After Dedham

The Lady Wamps are 6-0.

The Wamps led 18-10 after the 1st quarter against a similarily undefeated Dedham squad Wednesday night, 40-18 after the 2nd quarter, 54-26 after the 3rd quarter and won running away 71-30, making the girls 6-0 this year. They have a game Friday night against Brookline at Braintree High School and play an undefeated Fontbonne Academy on Jan. 9 at home.
