On Saturday, March 23rd, 2013, at 9am, South Middle School is hosting its first annual 5K walk/run/roll road race to benefit two Braintree graduating seniors with $500.00 scholarship each. Participants will walk, race or roll through the route which begins and ends at South Middle School. Start time for wheelchair racer, Michael Baumgartner, a 7th Grade student at South Middle School and Michael’s pace keeper, Dan Roy will be at 8:50am. Michael is currently ranked number 1 in the United States (under 14 division), in the 100, 200, 400 and 800 meter wheelchair races. This is Michael’s first 5k. Dan Roy has been competing in triathlons and endurance events, including several marathons and the Ironman, for the past 13 years. Braintree …

The first major spring event is coming soon, and tickets are now on sale for “Remember When” a ‘50s/’60s event, being hosted by CDA Court St. Francis of Assisi, and featuring the fabulous “Dale and the Duds." Hearken back to an earlier time when you understood the words to the songs and could sing along to the music while dancing with that “special someone” without fearing that your parents would blush if they saw you. After three years of singing for fun at parties, on local street corners, and around the campfire, Dale and the Duds booked their first paying job in 1972 and are still performing on a regular basis today. A Braintree Boys Hockey Fundraiser is booked at The Chateau on Thursday, Feb. 21. On Thursday, anyone who brings their ticket to the Chateau for lunch, dinner or order take-out to bring home, Braintree Boys Hockey will receive a check for 20% of the total. When paying your check, give the waitperson your ticket. (see flier attached to this article to download a ticket). There is an early afternoon game Thursday in Brockton and a great opportunity to stop by the Chateau for dinner after the game. On Sunday, April 1 the Donald Ross School will be having an April Fools' Day 5K Walk/Fun Run. Registration starts at 9 a.m., walk at 9:30 a.m. and the run at 10 a.m. Registration is $15 if received by March 14 and the first 100 registered runners/walkers will receive a long-sleeved T-shirt. The race will go on rain or shine. Awards include: First Overall Male and Female and the top 3 finishers in each male and female age group: 10yrs & under* 11-14* 15-19* 20-29* 30-39* 40-49* 50-59* 60+ In addition, for $10 we will be selling our Ross Calendar Raffle with more than $4,000 in prizes! The auction and dinner to support the Braintree Community Youth Center is from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 27.
Participants in the live and silent auctions being held on Friday to support the Braintree Community Youth Center could win a South African Safari, a ride to school from the Braintree Police Department, a flat screen TV and even a meet and greet with Republican Senator Scott Brown. A year ago, in response to the possibility the center may have had to shut its doors, members of the community got together and held a dinner and fundraiser at Emerald Hall that raised more than $30,000. That and a California Pizza Kitchen event that raised another $4,000 sent the BCYC on its way to surer financial footing. The Braintree Community Youth Center has teamed up with UNO Chicago Grill for a fundraiser on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 17-18.
In another example of its now strong fundraising apparatus, the Braintree Community Youth Center is raising funds this weekend through a partnership with the local UNO Chicago Grill at the South Shore Plaza. On Dec. 17 and Dec. 18, the restaurant will donate up to 20 percent (depending on turnout) to the youth center from all sales of those who bring a ticket with them. Tickets are attached to this article. Sales of all items, including dine in, take out, beverages and gift cards, are included. If the youth center exceeds $1,000 in sales it will receive a free pizza party.
