Scott Brown, Stephen Lynch Present Grants to Braintree, Quincy Fire

The money for Braintree will go to help bring back in service a heavy-duty rescue truck.

Federal lawmakers joined with state and local officials on Sunday afternoon at the Braintree Fire Department headquarters to mark the distribution of more than $141,000 in public safety grants for Braintree and Quincy. The $72,847 in funding for Braintree, from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, will help upgrade a heavy-duty rescue truck that is used regionally for incidents like train crashes and has been out of service for several months. Quincy will use its $68,800 grant to replace a force-able entry tool and 60 air bottles. "The rubber hits the road at the local service level, but we couldn't do it without our state and federal partners," Quincy Mayor Thomas Koch said. Federal Grant Money Goes to Braintree Fire Department

Nearly $1.8 million in federal grant money will be distributed to a dozen Massachusetts towns.

The Braintree Fire Department is among 12 in the Commonwealth that will receive federal grant money for a variety of uses, lawmakers announced on Tuesday. The funding, awarded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Assistance to Firefighters Grants, will go toward training, health programs, new safety equipment and emergency vehicles, Senators John Kerry and Scott Brown, along with Congressmen Richard E. Neal, John Tierney, and Stephen F. Lynch said in a press release. Braintree will receive $72,847 of the $1,785,303 total, which also includes money for communities such as Quincy and Rockland.
