Dave & Buster's Derailed Again by Dearth of Data

The Planning Board on Tuesday night also approved with conditions a development where Ultimate Pizza is now.

Dave & Buster's officials spoke of dress codes, charitable giving, IDs and wristbands, even stroller regulations on Tuesday night. They did not, however, provide the kind of measurable data on police incidents, guest counts and other topics that the Planning Board expected to consider upon its rescheduled nine-month review, and which members said were a key condition of its special permit. "We can only react to information we receive and don't receive," Darryl Mikami said. "We have policies, but what are the results of those policies?" Mikami and other members had previously requested a "report card" about how Dave & Buster's has operated since it opened in December 2011. They requested details such as how long lines would be dealt with …

Dave & Buster's Check-in With Braintree Officials Goes Awry

Dave & Buster's is an entertainment venue at the South Shore Plaza in Braintree that features arcade and video games, a restaurant and bar.

A scheduled review of Dave & Buster's operations went off track Tuesday night when town officials refused to engage with representatives from the restaurant and arcade. Planning Board members told the company's lawyer and local management that they would hold off on a discussion slated to happen nine months after the establishment's opening because Dave & Buster's had not submitted a required written update of its operations prior to the board meeting. "It is very unfair to us and to the town if we cannot look at the information beforehand," member Darryl Mikami said. The company was required to submit documentation two weeks prior to a nine-month review, as built into its special permit conditions, Mikami said. Other board members, …

Police Arrest Two in Connection With Braintree Dave & Buster's Stabbing

The following information was supplied by the Braintree Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Two men were recently identified by staff at Dave & Buster's as having been involved in a stabbing at the restaurant and arcade last month and were arrested by Braintree police. Both men – originally nabbed for drinking from a bottle of vodka in the parking lot – were charged with assault and battery after a Braintree police officer confronted them at Dave & Buster's last Friday night for the alcohol violation and they were identified as having attacked a 23-year-old Dorchester man on July 15. Tyree Anderson, 20, who gave his adress as Atlanta, GA, and Rakim D. Scott, 23, of Brockton, allegedly left the restaurant, went drinking in a vehicle and then returned inside on Aug. 3, Deputy Chief Russell Jenkins said in a statement.  Lieutenant …

Recent Dave & Buster's Assault Will Not Prompt Security Detail Change, Chief Says

The police chief and license board reduced the number of police details at Dave & Buster's in June.

A police detail would not have changed the circumstances of a stabbing that took place earlier this month at Dave & Buster's, Police Chief Paul Frazier said this week, and therefore there is no reason to rethink his recent decision to scale back the security plan at the restaurant and arcade. Prompted by a stipulation within the town's agreement with Dave & Buster's for a review of police details after six months, in June Frazier reduced available hours for Braintree officers – paid for by Dave & Buster's – from 92 to 36. The Board of License Commissioners then voted to support that decision, despite opposition from police officers and the Granite Park Association. Dave & Buster's officials also requested that the details be reduced …

Reduced Police Details at Dave & Buster's Approved by Braintree Board

The board also held a hearing on T.G.I. Friday's all-alcohol license on Tuesday. Tune in to Braintree Patch for more on that topic.

Braintree officials on Tuesday approved a scaled-down security plan for Dave & Buster's six months after the restaurant and arcade opened and following Police Chief Paul Frazier's decision with company management to significantly reduce the number of detail hours worked throughout the week. The security review was prompted by a condition built into Dave & Buster's amusement license, granted in March 2011, that required the police chief to examine the detail staffing and the Board of License Commissioners to take action, Town Solicitor Carolyn Murray said. Dave & Buster's officials requested that details be reduced because of what they said will be a slow-down over the summer. General Manager Derek Robinson said that the establishment has …

Braintree Brother-Sister Duo Putting on Fundraiser to Support Dolphin Strandings

The fundraiser is at at Dave & Buster's on Saturday, April 21 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

When six-year-old Joshua Kaye learned about the extraordinary strandings of dolphins on Cape Cod this winter, he immediately knew he wanted to do something about it. Joshua, who attends Meeting House Montessori School in Braintree, enlisted the support of his 13-year-old sister, Lauren, a student at East Middle School, and his mom, Melissa Kaye. Soon enough Melissa had spoken with someone at the International Fund for Animal Welfare, who laid out the group's needs. "She told me that they needed more volunteers, more dry suits and lots of specialized medical equipment for the dolphins," Melissa said in an email. "Because volunteers were working around the clock and dry suits were in short supply and many damaged, they were literally duct …

As a youngster I was crushed and deeply saddened to see a large number of whales stranded on the same Cape Cod beaches. As a grandmother, I am extremely proud of my young grandchildren who are environmentally and socially conscious and are doing something about it. Thank you to Joshua, Lauren and Allie Kaye and their parents who are doing such a good job raising children who are focused on the …   more ›
