Joe's American Bar & Grill won our Best of Readers' Choice contest this week featuring your favorite places to celebrate St. Patrick's Day in Braintree. The restaurant at the South Shore Plaza captured 44 percent of the vote, followed by 99 Restaurant and Pub at 26 percent and Other (Boston?) at 20%. Write-ins included a reader's mom's house for corned beef and cabbage and Olympian Diner. Examining the St. Patrick's Day offerings in Braintree, Kerry put it like this in a comment: "...other fun spots are McDonald's for a Shamrock Shake & Southie for the parade. Visions for Vacancies: What Should Replace Braintree's Borders?

What would you like to see in the vacant store font at 255 Grossman Dr.?

Borders closed in Braintree in May 2011, and has since seen iParty take its space for a brief stint around Halloween. In a new feature on Braintree Patch, we're asking readers to suggest what they would like to see in vacant storefronts around town. What kind of business would you like to visit at the 27,500-square-foot store? On June 2, Quincy-based The Grossman Companies, Inc., along with Dinosaur Capital Partners of Boston, bought the store for $4 million, according to a statement on Dinosaur's website. Borders announced in March 2011 that the Braintree location would close by the end of May. Sen. Scott Brown Stops by Braintree Friday, Visiting Students, Officials and Local Shops

The Republican Massachusetts Senator also took questions from TV news crews at Hollis Elementary on his race against Elizabeth Warren.

In the span of a couple hours on Friday morning, Sen. Scott Brown, R-MA, managed to read two books to students at Hollis Elementary School, shared a few moments with former Boston Mayor Ray Flynn, spoke with locals at a pair of Braintree businesses and met with several officials at Town Hall. Brown's trip to Braintree came amid a battle with Harvard professor Elizabeth Warren for the Senate seat formerly occupied by Ted Kennedy, which Brown won in a special election in 2010. Dave & Buster's Teams With Nonprofit in Braintree to Raise Money for Muscular Dystrophy

Dave & Buster's in Braintree is hosting a fundraising event on March 28 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

On March 28, 2012, community leaders from the towns of Braintree, Randolph, and Holbrook, will be going to be going behind bars for “GOOD” as Muscular Dystrophy Association's Most Wanted Heroes! These business leaders have been accused of having a big heart and have been sentenced to serve one hour at Dave & Buster’s to raise funds for services to local individuals affected with neuromuscular diseases. Jailbirds will be picked up at work by our Friendly Arresting Officers who are volunteering from local police and fire departments such as: Braintree Police Department, Massachusetts State Police, and the Norfolk County Sheriff’s Dept. Ashley's Wins Best Breakfast in Inaugural Braintree Patch Contest

Ashley's took first in our Best Breakfast Spot in Braintree contest this week, followed by Kristin's and Olympian Diner.

With nearly 500 votes cast in Braintree Patch's first in a series of "Best Of" contests, members of the community turned out in force to select their favorite breakfast spot – Ashley's on Washington Street. This week's contest started off with heavy voting on Monday morning, and by Tuesday it looked like Kristin's in Braintree Square would maintain its lead all week, ahead of Olympian Diner and Ashley's at a distant third. But as the days passed, Ashley's supporters really started weighing in, dropping positive comments and piling up largely glowing reviews on its Patch listings page. On the Patch website, business owners and managers can now claim their free, directory listings. Simply go to www.braintree.patch.com/places and click on "claim your listing."
