'Grandma Ginny,' Braintree Storyteller, to Join 'Crazy Days' in Middleboro

"Grandma Ginny" makes appearances at daycares and other places, performing her stories in character.

Local storyteller and recent e-book author “Grandma Ginny” will be participating in “Crazy Days” in Middleboro on Aug. 3 and 4. In costume, “Grandma Ginny will be telling her tales to children at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday.  There is no charge to attend this event, which is located in Downtown Middleboro. Motivated by the children’s love of reading, their weekly visits to Thayer Public Library, and their difficulty falling asleep, long-time Braintree resident Ginny Polio has written many short stories, rhymes, and lullabys to delight and settle down her grandkids at bedtime. Some stories are the retelling of actual events, like “Adventures with Lucky and Slimy” and “Sleeping in My Own Bed.” Others were strictly …

Auditions Upcoming for New Show at Braintree's Curtain Call Theatre

Auditions will be held on Monday, August 20 and Tuesday, August 21.

Auditions will be held on Monday, Aug. 20 and Tuesday, Aug. 21. Auditioningactors should plan to arrive at 7 p.m. NO APPOINTMENTS – COME EITHER NIGHT. Callbacks (if necessary) will be either Thursday, Aug. 23 or Sunday, Aug. 26. All actors will be asked to sing 16-24 bars of a song in the style of the show (20's musical). Braintree Student Attends Mass Art All State at Worcester Art Museum

The Worcester Art Museum opened in 1898 and serves Worcester and the regional community.

Last weekend, Alexandria Pearse of Braintree High School joined 147 Massachusetts high school juniors at the 25th annual Art All State program at Worcester Art Museum. Alexandria was invited to participate in the prestigious program, which is organized by the museum and the Massachusetts Art Education Association.  Students, first nominated by their art teachers, then undergo a rigorous application process. “The competition across the state for the 147available spots is stiff.  This year marked one of the most competitive years to date since Art All State’s inception in 1987.  The group of students we have this year truly represents the very best in Massachusetts,” said Gillian Bonazoli, manager of Art All State. Mural Created by Dozens of Students Celebrated with Braintree High Presentation

Braintree High art students have been working this semester on a clay and mosaic tile/glass mural that was hung earlier this month in the school's lobby.

Braintree Couple Stars in Upcoming Spring Musical at Curtain Call Theatre

"Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda, Did!" will be performed at the Braintree-based theatre May 18-20, 2012.

Braintree husband and wife Teddy and Maria Hendricks team up with Braintree resident Valerie Sheehy to star in Curtain Call Theatre of Braintree's spring musical review, Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda, Did! opening on May 18, 2012. Conceived and directed by Miki Joseph, Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda, Did! is comprised of songs from shows that Curtain Call, in its 50-year history, has never produced. Musical direction is by Alex Gordon. Selections include music from Phantom of the Opera, Wicked, Spamalot, A Chorus Line, Jekyll and Hyde, and Funny Girl. Art Reception at Braintree High to Unveil Mural, 3D Projects

The reception is at 6 p.m. on May 9, followed by a jazz concert at 7 p.m.

On Wednesday, May 9, Braintree High School will host a Community Opening Reception for a Ceramic Tile Mural and 3D Design Projects created by BHS students. The 12’ by 8’ ceramic mural created by the Braintree High 3D Design students under the creative supervision of artist in residence David Fichter and 3D design teacher Johanna Chase was funded by a Mass Cultural Council STARS grant, a Braintree Arts Council grant and donations from local business and civic organizations.  The opening will precede a middle and high school jazz band concert at 7 p.m. For more information on the mural, see http://braintree.patch.com/articles/renowned-cambridge-artist-works-with-braintree-high-students-on-community-mural.

Curtain Call Theatre Offering Summer Youth Acting Program

Curtain Call Theatre has been entertaining Braintree and surrounding communities since its first performance of "Oklahoma!" in June 1962.

Curtain Call Theatre in Braintree is again offering its summer youth acting program, Theater in the Middle, for four weeks from June 25 to July 20, 2012.  The camp will meet for five days a week, Monday-Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Participants should plan to enroll for all four weeks, but shorter enrollments are possible. The program involves preparation for a major production to be presented on July 19.  In addition, there will be focus on monologues, scene work, voice production, improvisation and film work. Multi-Skilled Braintree Yoga Instructor also a Playwright While Teaching Across Europe

Brian Culkin, founder of Jai Yoga in Braintree, is spreading his unique philosophy on yoga and the power of human potential throughout Europe and has written plays on the nature of life and death.

Success has come to Braintree native Brian Culkin in a variety of ways throughout his relatively young life – as a NCAA Division 3 basketball player, a financial executive, yoga studio owner and now an inspirational leadership consultant to high-powered clients across Europe. Recently, Culkin turned his energy and intellect toward a new endeavor that combines his experiences. The Thayer Academy graduate is using philosophical ideas about the potential of human beings, emotional lessons from teaching intense, mind-opening seminars, and his sense of humor to write plays that he hopes to publish and produce for wide audiences.
