Town Will Not Seek Seasonal Alcohol Permit for Golf Course This Year

The Braintree Municipal Golf Course is one of a few of its type in Massachusetts that does not serve alcohol.

"I am very sensitive to the neighborhood concerns," Sullivan said. By continuing to seek one-day alcohol licenses for special events – no more than six or so per season, Sullivan suggested – over the next year or two the course may be able to "build some credibility with the neighborhood" and circle back to the proposal. Braintree Golf Course Grooming Ski Trails with New Snowmobile Device

Braintree Municipal Golf Course is booming – last year the course saw "unprecedented" growth in gift card sales, totalling $35,000 just between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

A towable groomer for the Braintree Municipal Golf Course's snowmobile arrived just in time for the recent snowfall. The device, whose purchase was approved by the Town Council earlier this year, is designed to pack, level, groom and cut ski tracks into the snow, Director Daryn Brown said in an email. It is the same groomer that was used at the Vancouver Olympics. The course's utility snowmobile was bought two years ago, but Brown said he waited on purchasing the groomer because of a lack of snow last winter. "Anticipating a snowier winter I decided to order it about a month ago and it recently arrived just in time for our last snow fall," Brown said. "I plan to start grooming a series for paths throughout the golf course starting [Tuesday…

The course is asking for more appropriations from the Town Council to pay for several items.

Likely purchases include a new sales system that will feature smartphone apps in addition to regular Internet and telephone tee time scheduling, a refurbished food and beverage cart, and investment in more pro shop merchandise. The course also plans to enter into a five-year lease for 47 new golf carts, and is seeking a towable groomer for the back of its snowmobile that will help create walking and cross-country skiiing paths in the winter. All of the spending received favorable recommendations Wednesday night from members of the Committee on Ways & Means. Daryn Brown, Director of Golf Operations, told the …

Record-Setting Spring a Boost for Increasingly Digital-Friendly Braintree Golf Course

A public course, Braintree Municipal Golf Course offers 18 holes of golfing.

That social media effort, along with the possibility of a future mobile app, will join the golf course's current digital lineup, which includes a Facebook page, increasing numbers of online reservations – 80 percent of tee times are now booked through the course's website, double last year's rate – along with the development of its own QR code, a quickly-…
