Students were dismissed at 11:45 a.m. ahead of a threat of the school exploding at noon.
UPDATE: 12:45 p.m.: In a statement, Police Chief Russell Jenkins said that one note was in a third floor bathroom and the other was found on a bench outside a third floor classroom. "Both notes had a similar writing style," Jenkins said. "Canines specially trained to sniff out explosives were called in from area departments and a search of the school was conducted looking for anything suspicious. At the time of this writing, nothing suspicious has been located." ***** ***** ***** Students were dismissed from Braintree High School just before noon Thursday morning after two bomb threats were discovered at the school. Members of the Braintree High Show Choir and winter sports teams received accolades Tuesday night.
Dozens of Braintree High School athletes, coaches and family members packed the Town Hall auditorium Tuesday night to receive citations from the Town Council. The evening began with a somber moment of silence for members of the armed forces and the victims and responders of the Boston Marathon bombing before turning jubilant as the high school show choir performed the "Star Spangled Banner" and a rousing spiritual that earlier this year earned them high marks at a regional music festival. Below is a list of those honored Tuesday: Braintree High School Show Choir Rachel Hallenbeck – Director of Music Molly Frechette Stanzi Potenza Catherine Conley John O'Connell William Peacock Kaylene Snarsky Paul Valliancourt Bryan Rowell Nicolas D'Amico …

"Credit for Life" is a program developed by the Consumer Credit Counseling Service and Credit Executives Association of Southeastern New England.
Last week, 125 students from Braintree High School entered the Tirrell Room in Quincy. A few hours later, they left full of information about how to budget, save, use credit and make purchasing decisions. The students had taken part in the school's 2nd Annual Credit for Life Fair, aimed at educating students on the basics of credit and its role in personal finance. "Credit for Life" was developed by the Consumer Credit Counseling Service and the Credit Executives Association of Southeastern New England. Each student chose a profession from a lengthy list, a decision that had a significant impact on their buying power. Each occupation came with a salary, student loan debt and estimated savings, drawn from federal data. Volunteers and …

An attorney will offer advice to parents at the high school later this month.
Is your child’s happiness or popularity worth an $8,000,000 party? That question is at the heart of a seminar scheduled for April 24 at Braintree High School. The event, put on by the Braintree Alliance for Safe and Healthy Youth and Students Against Destructive Decisions, will be at 7 p.m. and will include a raffle. Jay Campbell, a Boston-based attorney and expert on the state's social host law, will serve as the guest speaker for the "Be a Parent, Not a Pal" program. "Twenty-eight states now have some variation of so-called “social host liability” laws, which make it illegal for parents to provide alcohol to minors — even in the confines of their own homes," according to WBUR. Attendees will automatically be put into a drawing for the …

King, the former director of guidance, passed away last August.
Rachel Norton sat across from Tony King in his office during their first meeting about preparing for college. Her heart pounding, Rachel thought of all the possibilities and felt unsure. King laughed. "He made me see that the question marks were opportunities, not something to fear," Rachel said. Rachel, a graduating senior and President of the Braintree High School Student Government, shared this memory last Friday during a tribute to the former guidance director, who passed away unexpectedly last August. His life was celebrated with a reception attended by dozens of former students, colleagues and friends, with song, and with memories of his compassion, wisdom and wit. King worked in the Braintree Public Schools for 35 years. He was …

Below is the inscription on the plaque naming The Anthony T. King Guidance Suite at Braintree High School. He did so always with the utmost dedication, professionalism, and integrity. Known for his compassion, sensitivity, wisdom, and wit, "Mr. …

Braintree High School student Jacqueline Flynn's research into how to kill ticks is being looked at by the federal government.
Jacqueline Flynn was working on an entirely different angle of tick research when she came across findings that would launch her project into first place at the Braintree High School Science Fair, second at regionals and garner the interest of state and federal officials. Flynn, a sophomore at BHS, was worried about making sure she removed ticks from herself and her clothing after collecting them for a different project when she researched how to kill them in a laundry cycle. She found a lack of data, and what she did find indicated that ticks frequently survive a clothes washer cycle because they are difficult to drown, but that a full hour in the dryer can kill them. After 13 cycles of testing, Flynn discovered that the deer ticks she …

A note was found in a bathroom at the high school Monday afternoon.
UPDATE: Headmaster James Lee said in a voice message Tuesday afternoon that situations such as the one Monday at BHS happen fairly often in districts throughout the state, though having a date attached means looking more closely at the note and its credibility. "They happen all around the state with more consistency than they have in the past, largely because school administrators take them so seriously," Lee said. He added that he could not provide a figure for how many times it has happened at Braintree High. He has experienced the threats at past jobs, in Manchester Essex and Newburyport. Monday's note was less credible than those he has seen elsewhere, Lee said. ***** ***** ***** Braintree police have determined that a bomb …
