Natick held on to its undefeated season with a 35-17 win over Braintree High.
Bright flashes of lightning lit up the sky over Natick as the Braintree Wamps and Natick Red Hawks finished warm ups before their game under the Friday night lights. The Wamps were coming of a 32-0 romp in Dedham and the Red Hawks coming off a win against always powerful Weymouth. The Red Hawks, behind the quarterbacking of Troy Flutie, son of Darren and nephew of Doug, came into this game at 6-0. The Braintree Wamps rolled into Wellesley on Saturday morning. The air on the field was damp and the natural grass was soaking wet and quickly getting muddy as the Wamps warmed up before their contest with Bay State rival Wellesley. The faithful Braintree fans were showing up with hot coffee, winter coats and blankets. Barely a Wellesley fan could be seen as the stands on the home side were nearly empty, except for the band members, for the start of the game. Braintree was able to stop the Wellesley offense on its first possession. After a kick return by JP Salisbury, Anthony Luisi, Braintree’s senior quarterback, took control of the game. The Wamps marched down the field ,getting three first downs straight on their opening possession. …

The Braintree freshmen football team brought their ‘A’ game to Herget field today. This young Wamps team, in only the third game, improved to 2-1 on the young season after their second win against the Needham High School freshmen. It wasn’t just the win that impressed the fans. It was the way this group of players operated together. Mistakes were at a minimum. The blocking was impressive. The defense stopped Needham almost every time. The offense gave more looks & had more plays. The Needham defensive line seemed most of the day to have no idea what was coming at them. The running game had several weapons. Quarterback Justin Dutcher watched the offensive line open the door for him on a number of occasions. Dirique Richards Brown scored …

The Wamps are back on track. Braintree football began a three-game road trip on Saturday, opening against the Brookline Warriors. The Wamps opened the scoring early with a field goal off the sure footed kicker Tiago Pinto. The teams were evenly matched defensively and there was no other scoring until the fourth quarter. The Wamps used their running game against Brookline. Anthony Luisi, Braintree’s quarterback, executed a flawless drive. The coaching staff constantly mixed up the plays catching Brookline off guard. Sophomore running back JP Salisbury spent much of the day carrying the ball. Braintree mixed in carries from Chris Coraine, Connor Leslie & Nick Anson. Anthony Luisi, a dual threat, as he just as likely to run as he is to pass, …

The coach reflects on first year in Braintree and believes the future is bright.
The Braintree High School football team recently concluded its first season under coach Brian Chamberlain and his staff with a 4-7 record that was capped off with a big win on Thanksgiving against Milton, 28-21. Chamberlain and his staff began to work with the players at the end of August when practice officially began. He said they came in with an open mind about all of the players, and that they didn’t know a whole lot about each player’s skills and abilities. “I told the kids from day one they had a clean slate with me,” Chamberlain said. “I was happy with how the kids responded to us. I think we made some big strides.” Chamberlain mentions a couple of different areas in which he thinks the team made vast improvements. One was in the …
