From the Braintree Electric Light Department: If you are a Verizon Internet customer, we need your help in resolving a technical problem affecting your email. Verizon is blocking BELD Broadband server smtp1.beld.net (IP 24.233.95.156). As a result, hundreds of Verizon customers are not getting email from hundreds of BELD Broadband subscribers. If you are a Verizon customer, you may not be receiving legitimate personal email. We have tried to use Verizon's online portal for unblocking the server and we've spent considerable time on the phone attempting to resolve this issue. Verizon representatives finally informed us that they will NOT address the issue unless they hear directly from these customers. We only handle email for our domain …

Longtime Braintree resident and Braintree Electric Light Commissioner Jim Regan has accepted an appointment from the American Public Power Association (APPA). Commissioner Regan will serve for the next three years as a member of the Policy Makers Council (PMC). The PMC is made up of locally-elected and appointed officials from public power communities across the country. Its mission is to assist APPA in moving legislation forward that is important to the public power electric utilities nationwide. Mr. Regan currently serves as Chairman of the Braintree Electric Light Department (BELD). Below is a letter from the GM of the Braintree Electric Light Department on the Blizzard of 2013: The Blizzard of 2013 was an historic storm that will most certainly be talked about for years to come. The combination of heavy snow and wind gusts over 65 mph brought down trees and power lines in Braintree, leaving many homes without heat and electricity. As you know, Braintree Electric Light Department (BELD) staff and crews worked diligently throughout the storm, doing everything within our abilities to restore power and limit the number of affected customers within our community. UPDATE: A note from the Office of Mayor Joseph Sullivan: "Due to last night’s storms the Mayor has decided to keep the compost site on Plain Street open for the weekend instead of closing it tomorrow afternoon as originally planned." Braintree Electric Light Department (BELD) will celebrate national Public Power Week with a tent at the Braintree Farmers Market on September 29 and a Senior Breakfast on October 1. This annual celebration is observed by more than 2,000 electric utilities that collectively provide electricity on a not-for-profit basis to 43 million Americans. Look for the tent BELD donated to Sustainable Braintree, and join us at the Farmers Market between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 29. The Sunset Lake Concert Series, sponsored by the Braintree Electric Light Department, spanned the summer on Tuesday evenings.
On Tuesday, Aug. 7, Braintree experienced its final Sunset Lake Concert of the summer, featuring a performance by The Reminisants, six musicians who played a wide range of popular and classic tunes. The concert series is sponsored by the Braintree Electric Light Department and was held on Tuesdays throughout the summer.

Another event in support of fundraising for Project PROVE’s 40th Anniversary celebration/annual reunion will be this Tuesday night’s Sunset Lake concert, featuring Ramshackle, whom you heard if you made it to the Braintree Farmers Market a couple of weeks ago. Ramshackle is an acoustic trio which includes Braintree native Robin Roy Huer. Ramshackle has provided musical accompaniment for PROVE reunions, in some form or another, since the first event in 2004. The Sunset Lake Concert Series, sponsored by BELD, runs on Tuesday evenings through the summer. The concert featuring Ramshackle is on July 10 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Rain date is Wednesday. BELD Broadband is continuing to experience disruptions to local channels 4, 8 and 19 (WBZ, WSBK and WGBX) as well as their high-definition counterparts 504, 508, and 519. A transmission line or antenna fault at the Needham community tower site took several Boston broadcast stations off the air Sunday, April 8. These particular channels are continuing to experience technical difficulties at their over-the-air transmitter site. BELD Broadband, Braintree’s community-owned and -operated broadband department, has announced several upgrades to its High-Speed Internet and phone services for residential customers. BELD.net customers who initially signed up for 15 Mbps Premium service can now enjoy speeds up to 18 Mbps down at no additional charge.
