Braintree Seniors Learn Fraud Avoidance

Beware of fishy emails, solicitous phone calls and the cash-up-front handyman.

Last month, an 84-year-old Braintree woman received a phone call from someone claiming to be her grandson, telling her that he had been arrested in California and needed more than $2,000 wired through Western Union. Fortunately, an employee with the wire service recognized what is increasingly a common scam and the elderly woman told police about the bail money scheme. It's sad how these scammers easily play with the victim's emotion and take advantage of the love and concern the victim has for the other family members. This should be considered a serious crime and I think it…   more ›

Braintree Cooperative Bank Uses Video Screens to Help Children in Foster Care

The Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE) was founded in 1957 to find “a permanent place to call home” for children and teens in foster care in Massachusetts.

As Braintree’s “hometown bank,” Braintree Cooperative Bank is using its in-bank video screens to recruit adoptive homes for children in state foster care. The screens now feature slides that encourage customers to contact the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE) to learn if they might be the family a child has been waiting for. Braintree Cooperative Bank VP Joanne Tully offered the bank’s screens after hearing a presentation about MARE at a Braintree Rotary Club meeting. Tully, a past president of the Rotary, takes to heart the bank’s mission of serving the community. “It’s my hope that by helping to promote MARE here at the Bank, we can bring at least one family and child together,” Tully said.  The screens continue to inform …
