Liam Egan and Brendan Walsh of Braintree, juniors at Boston College High School, together with 6 other BC High students and 3 faculty members, will join nearly 1,000 other attendees at the 15th annual Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice in Washington, DC, from November 16-18, 2012. The Teach-In is an opportunity for Egan and Walsh and members of the Ignatian family (28 Jesuit universities, 25 Jesuit High Schools, Jesuit parishes, Jesuit volunteer communities and many other Catholic institutions) to come together in the context of social justice and solidarity to learn, reflect, pray, network, and act for justice. Kemeza, President of Boston College High School, is pleased to announce that the following students from Braintree recently received special awards at an assembly to honor BC High undergraduates. Liam S. Feeney ’13 won Excellence awards in Chinese Language/Culture AP. European History AP, and Physics Honors. He also won a Dartmouth College Book award, a Diversity Cabinet Leadership award and a Middle East Club award. Benjamin Griffin ’13 won a Diversity Cabinet Leadership award. Nevin Zheng of Braintree, a current senior at Boston College High School, was selected from over 2,800 applicants to participate in the prestigious National Economics for Leaders Program this summer. From July 29, 2012 until August 5, 2012 Zheng attended conferences and seminars at Cornell University, Ithaca, NY. Zheng and 5 other BC High students were selected by a Foundation for Teaching Economics committee at UC-Berkeley. The program, run by the Foundation for Teaching Economics, admits 300 students per year (Only 10% of applicants are accepted to this program.) to its one-week summer program at various colleges throughout the country. Kalvin Silva of Braintree, a current junior at Boston College High School, was one of the 33 students who fed and befriended the hungry and homeless on the Boston Common in a homeless outreach program that runs every Thursday for 2 1/2 hours after school. This Project was founded by four curent seniors, under the guidance of Campus Minister, Ms. Jessica Meyer. Claude Khalif of Braintree, a junior at Boston College High School, recently participated in Boston College High School’s Summer Immersion Program in Lyon, France. Claude spent three weeks living with a French family, taking classes at Centre Saint Marc, the Jesuit High School of Lyon, and learning of the city’s rich history which dates back to antiquity. Among the sites visited were the Roman Amphitheatre, the Gallo Roman and Fine Arts Museums and the Center of French Resistance and Deportation. The trip culminated with a three-day excursion to Paris, where Claude toured such historical monuments as the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, Notre Dame and the Chateau of Versailles. John McKinley of Braintree, a junior at Boson College High School, along with 84 other members of The BC High Concert Choir, recently performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City. In the weeks leading up to the Carnegie Hall performance, John and his fellow-singers were asked to come to school at 7:00 a.m. 3 to 4 times per week to rehearse, even during school vacation week in February. The repertoire was carefully considered for the world-renowned venue by Dr. Marina Rozenberg, Choir Director at BC High. The choir students mastered selections in Latin, Czech, Russian and English as the repertoire included classical pieces composed by Puccini, Prokofiev and Dvorak.
