Wounded Soldiers Share Veterans Day With Braintree After School Enrichment

Braintree After School Enrichment (or BASE) is a licensed non-profit child care program that was launched by Roselyn Karll in 1985.

Several local veterans spoke with students at Braintree After School Enrichment on Monday, sharing stories about their military experience and their athletic prowess despite disabilities. The veterans were: Shawn Delfino, of Newtonville, a veteran of the Army National Guard who served in Iraq in 2008 and 2009. "So many kids are used to video games," Delfino said. "They think it's just for fun and games." Mike Guilbault, of Attleboro, a veteran of the Air Force and recreation director with the New England Paralyzed Veterans of America. Stay Safe Lessons for BASE Kids From Braintree Police Officer

If someone tries to break into your house do you hit them with a frying pan? What if you get home and see strangers in your kitchen? Should you go out to the shed, grab a hammer and be a hero? Should you help someone put stuff in their car at the mall? No, no and no, Sgt. Michael Want of the Braintree Police Department told kids in the Braintree After School Enrichment program at Hollis School on Monday afternoon. Want instead offered the students a simple and effective response to "stranger danger." Always say loudly that the person is not one of your parents and yell as hard as you can, he said.
