The Great East Smokeout
Teachers and students at East Middle School join efforts with the American Cancer Society and Quincy Credit Union to take a stand against smoking.
The following is from the faculty and staff of East Middle School and the Quincy Credit Union: Tobacco use remains the single largest preventable cause of disease and premature death in the US. Each day, more than 3,800 persons younger than 18 years of age smoke their first cigarette. As educators, we hope to end this and create a smoke free generation. It is a tradition at East, for faculty and staff to recognize the efforts of the American Cancer Society and send our students the message that smoking is dangerous. This year, the Quincy Credit Union has joined our efforts. Through the generosity of the Quincy Credit Union, all staff members wore a special t-shirt in support of a smoke free generation on the half day before Thanksgiving. …
