The Dickens Holiday Festival and Craft Fair, a unique entertainment and shopping adventure, will take place at All Souls Church, 196 Elm Street, corner of Church and Elm Streets, Braintree, Saturday, November 17, 2012, from 10 to 3. Celebrating our 18th Year! The Ghost of Marley will appear in chains and show Ebenezer Scrooge the error of his ways. Costumed characters from A Christmas Carol will visit the Festival at various times to interact with one another, with craft vendors and with visitors. Victorian Christmas Carolers will gather several times throughout the day to sing. Children from our Religious Education program, dressed as urchins, will be selling Baked Tarts with proceeds going to charity. Be Sure to Visit ... Christmas …

The Dickens Holiday Festival has become a major event in the community as it kicks off the season in grand style. Finalists have been announced for the South Shore Teen Talent Contestat All Souls Church in Braintree this Friday, June 8. The finalists will compete for a chance to perform live at Braintree's 4th of July Celebration on Saturday, June 30. The finals are on June 8, from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at All Souls. Admission is $4 for teens and $8 for adults and their will be refreshments available. All proceeds go to the church. Contestants should be at the church by 6 p.m. BCAM will air the June 8 contest. All Souls Church on Elm Street in Braintree received $82,000 last year for restoration work on the outside of its building.
The Town Council approved additional Community Preservation Act money for an exterior repair project at Braintree's All Souls Church this week despite criticism leveled at the funding process by two members of the council's financial committee. Councilors voted 7-2 on Tuesday night to provide the church $4,410 to supplement $82,511 granted last September for the replacement of broken gutters and repairs to a leaking roof tower for All Souls' building, completed in 1905 and designed by famed Boston architect Edwin J. Lewis, whose work includes several buildings on the National Register of Historic Places. On Sunday, March 11, All Souls Church hosted a forum to examine issues surrounding homelessness and housing. Below are summaries of what the experts discussed during the event. Braintree's Veteran's Agent Dick Walsh: He reported that his office is charged with helping and assisting veterans and their families. He helps his clients access the supports that exist for veterans with a variety of needs, including housing assistance. Ruth Porter of School on Wheels: Ruth spoke about the needs of homeless youth between the ages of 16 and 22. There are an estimated 6,000 unaccompanied youth in Massachusetts, meaning that these young people have no caring adult and no home.
