Hashing Out Travel Expense Policy, Braintree Students to Sign Intent Letters

Monday Essentials: What's going on this week in Braintree.

The Town Council's Committee on Ordinance & Rules will meet at 6 p.m. Monday evening in the auditorium at Town Hall.

Members will discuss a potential new rule for travel and meeting expenses for the council, Clerk of the Council and Town Clerk. Last week, councilors reviewed an audit compiled by Town Auditor Eric Kinsherf that showed an increase in travel-related expenses for personnel under the council's purview over the last several years.

The audit also demonstrated a lack of oversight, with some trips missing a signature from the council president and details such as conference descriptions, number of days attended and the value to the town.

Councilors will consider mandating detailed travel plans for its supervisory areas for the upcoming fiscal year during its annual budget process each spring. They may also require the council president to sign off on all such expenses ahead of time.

The committee will also discuss policy and procedure for storm communications.
