Charlotte Rose Kelly Play Area Ribbon Cutting Wednesday Evening

The play area is at French's Common next to Town Hall.

At 6:30 p.m. Wednesday there will be a ribbon cutting at the Charlotte Rose Kelly Playground at French’s Common.

The play area will open on what would have been Charlotte's seventh birthday. Charlotte, the inspiration behind the annual Prayers for Charlotte road races in Braintree, lost her two-and-a-half-year battle with Neuroblastoma on Dec. 7, 2011.

Supporters raised $40,000 for the playground behind Town Hall.

"Being on a swing was Charlotte's happiest time and a break from the world of cancer. Singing and swinging brought her so much joy. We are grateful to Charlotte, our brave little soul, who helped us build a bridge to each other paved with love," a note reads on the Charlotte Rose Kelly Play Area website.

Correction: The opening is Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., not Thursday.
