The following update was provided by Athletic Director Michael Denise:
Braintree hosted the MIAA Boys State Gymnastics Meet. Nick Van Alfen placed as an individual award winner in the all-around competition. Andover was the state championship team.
Braintree hosted the MIAA Division 1 South Sectional Wrestling Championships. As a team, the Wamps finished 3rd in the sectional. Great job by Rich and Dave Ellis and the boys for hosting the meet.
Individually, Martin Mulkerrin was the Sectional Champion at the 285 lb weight class and Dom Cataldo finished 2nd in the 220 lb weight class. Great job by the Wamps coaching staff, wrestlers and parent volunteers in hosting the meet.
Division 1 State Track Meet
Boys - Liam Maquire broke the 6' barrier in the High Jump and came in the top 10. Chris Carson ran a 6.9 55M which is an indoor record and Billy Keane ran a great race in the 600.
Girls - Abby Randall 5th in the Shot Put and Ally O'Rourke in the mile both medaled. More from coach Megan Peterson:
"The girls team finished up the season on a great note. Senior Abby Randall placed 5th in the shot put almost breaking her own school record with a throw of 35 10 1/4" (School record is 35' 11"). Freshman Ally O'Rourke also received a medal in the mile taking 8th place with a time of 5:21.
"Sophomores Adriana McDevitt, Delia Byrne and Lindsay Mahoney took 16th, 17th, and 22nd in the 600m with personal best times. Brooke Yuen took 23rd in the 300, junior Alex McInnis took 19th in the 55m dash and junior Nora Donahue took 16th in the shot put.
"The 4x4 relay team of Lindsay Mahoney, Delia Byrne, Ally O'Rourke and Marissa Balsamo took 22nd. The 4x200 relay team consisting of Brooke Yuen, Caroline Cross, Adriana McDevitt and Alex McInnis took 10th and ran a personal record time of 1:51.94.
"Also, Abby Randall qualified for the All-State Meet in the shot put! She is ranked 8th overall and will compete this Saturday, Feb. 23.
"All the girls had a fantastic season and I am so proud of their accomplishments. They are a group of talented young individuals and we are looking forward to coaching them in the spring and over the next few years! Congratulations ladies!"
Boys Ice Hockey
Braintree played well, but was defeated by a talented Catholic Memorial team 5-2.
Girls Ice Hockey
The Wamps were defeated by Ursaline Academy 3-1.
The Girls defeated Brockton 68-53 to advance to the finals of the IAABBO Tournament on Tuesday at 5:30 pm at Bridgewater-Raynham.
The Boys defeated Natick 64-43 to advance to the finals of the Davenport Classic at Sharon, 7:30 pm, Monday night
