Mayor Urges Residents to be Mindful When Parking for Red Sox Rally

Many residents will use the MBTA to get into Boston Saturday for the World Series victory parade.

Mayor Joseph Sullivan is urging Braintree residents to use patience and be cooperative with local businesses when they are parking Saturday to take the MBTA into Boston for the Red Sox World Series victory parade.

“Saturday will be a day of celebration for all of New England," Sullivan said in a statement. “Fans of all ages will enjoy Saturday’s parade and have wonderful, lifelong memories of the 2013 Red Sox ‘Rolling Rally.’”

However, the day will not be without its challenges, Sullivan said, noting that when the Boston Bruins recently won the Stanley Cup there were difficulties between residents and businesses, who towed many vehicles parked in their lots.

To prevent this from happening again, the mayor is asking businesses and parade goers to work with each other to make tomorrow’s celebration a memorable occasion for all of the right reasons, according to the statement.

Sullivan also said he urges "commercial centers with large parking lots recognize that tomorrow is special event and to have patience and understanding if some parade goers do end up using their parking areas."

Below are some things to keep in mind:

  • Avoid parking in residential neighborhoods in the area of the station.
  • Parade goers should try to carpool if it all possible.
  • If the garage at the Braintree Station is full please be aware that the parking garage at the Quincy Adams Station has capacity for nearly double the amount of cars.
  • Please utilize MBTA buses to get to the station if at all possible.
  • Recognize that the stores in the area of the Braintree MBTA station are open for business and require spaces for their customers.
  • Do not park in fire lanes or in front of loading docks.  Many of the cars that were towed during the Bruins parade were towed for these reasons.
“The parade starts at 10 a.m.," Sullivan said. “Let’s take a deep breath tomorrow and work with one another, and enjoy this ‘Boston Strong’ victory.”
