Braintree Youth Hockey Team Captures Crown at 2013 Quincy Tournament

Braintree finished the tournament with four wins and no losses.

On Thursday, February 21, 2013, Braintree Youth Hockey’s Squirt A hockey team captured the championship of the 2013 Quincy Youth Hockey Tournament.

The Wamps capped an undefeated tournament by pulling off a thrilling 4-2 win over an aggressive Acton-Boxboro squad that battled to the final buzzer.

“Acton-Boxboro was a fast team that forechecked more aggressively than anyone we’ve faced all season,” said Braintree Head Coach Brian Mahoney after the game. “I’m proud of our kids for playing a full game of two-way hockey, and for never getting discouraged.”

Braintree finished the tournament with four wins and no losses. The road to victory started on Monday with a 10-1 win over a chippy Dorchester squad.

On Tuesday, in what would be a sign of things to come, Braintree bested Acton-Boxboro 4-2. On the score sheet, Wednesday’s 7-1 win over Quincy may have looked like a walk in the park. It was anything but, as the score was only 2-1 with 5:03 left in the third period, due in large part to Quincy’s tight defense and stellar goaltending.
