Braintree Loses in Extra Innings to Central Maine in Babe Ruth Regionals

Supporters raised more than $6,000 to send Braintree to Connecticut for the Babe Ruth regionals.

Braintree's 15-year-old Babe Ruth team lost 3-2 in nine innings Sunday against Central Maine, but is still alive in the double elimination tournament.

Braintree is in Newtown, CT playing in the Babe Ruth 15 Regional Tournament after winning the Eastern Massachusetts Championship. They beat Keene, NH on Saturday 11-1 in six innings.

"Today's game was a great game on both sides," Babe Ruth coordinator Carl Zingarelli said. "Fantastic pitching on both sides as well as stupendous defense. The hitting was sparse. Braintree scored a run in the first and second innings. Maine scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh and pushed a run across in the bottom of the ninth to win."

Braintree plays next Monday at 6 p.m. against a team yet to be named.
