Braintree Boys Crush Newton North Gymnastics Tuesday Night

The Wamps next compete against Burlington on Friday, Jan. 20.

This update was provided by head coach Rich Ellis.

The boys gymnastics team defeated the Newton North High School squad by a score of 157.6 to 92.3 on Tuesday, Jan. 17. This was the first home meet for the Wamps (1-1).

There were very good gymnastics performances by Senior Captains Tim Lebbossiere, Peter MacLellan and Brett Ellis. Tim took first place on Floor Exercise with a score of 9.2. The home crowd showed much enthusiasm when he performed a high flying back somersault with two twists among some other terrific tumbling skills. Pete performed a unique layed-out side somersault on floor exercise that thrilled the fans.

Brett Ellis was clearly the best on pommel horse scoring an 8.0. He completed an outstanding vault also to score a 9.0. Very few gymnasts in the state perform the type of vault he did (tsukhara). Brett also won the rings event. He got the crowd in a buzz when his leather palm guard (worn on horizontal bar) snapped forcing him to come off the bar. Uninjured he heroically completed his routine. Tim cleaned up on High Bar and Parallel bars to win the all-around competition with a 49.1

The top four scores count toward the total team score, therefore it is very important to recognize the third and fourth scores for each event. Among the contributors were Nick VanElfen, Jonathan Lutz, Nickolas Bean, Matt Ford and Chris Lo. These beginners are getting better and better each week.

The Braintree Wamp gymnasts will travel to Burlington on Friday, Jan. 20.
