Old Schoolboys Accepting Scholarship Applications

Twelve awards are available for Charlestown residents who are headed to college or preparatory school.

The Old Charlestown Schoolboys Association is now accepting applications for its annual scholarship program.

A total of 12 scholarships are available in 2013 for any young man who meets the following criteria:

  • is a senior in high school;
  • has been a Charlestown resident for 10 years or more; 
  • and will be entering college or preparatory school or will be entering the sophomore, junior or senior year in college.

Scholarship applications are available at Boston Public Library's Charlestown Branch during regular hours. Individuals should send completed applications along with a copy of their high school transcript or latest college transcript to: Old Charlestown Schoolboys Association, Scholarship Committee, P.O. Box 290375, Charlestown, MA 02129.

Applications and transcripts must be received by no later than April 7. 

The Old Charlestown Schoolboys Association will hold their 100th annual reunion on Thursday, May 9 at the Knights of Columbus. All members in good standing are welcome to attend.

Membership in the association is open to Charlestown men age 50 and over who attended school in Charlestown or attended school elsewhere but resided in Charlestown during schooling. Membership fee is $25 per person.

According to the association's 2013 reunion booklet: "The object of this association is to keep and perpetuate the memories and association of our school days and to promote brotherly love and kind feelings."

Their motto is "Liberty—A Trust to be Transmitted to Posterity."

Very nice article for a great organization. Lets hope we have multiple applicants for these twelve scholarships.
