Dozens of Braintree Students Hit Perfect Mark on MCAS

Braintree High is also looking to boost SAT scores. Look for more on that on Patch.

Braintree students earned perfect MCAS scores on more than 100 tests taken in 2013, the most top scorers in recent memory.

"This is an example of the excellence we have in our schools," School Committee Chair Shannon Hume said Monday night.

Superintendent Dr. Maureen Murray said the students will receive commendations at their schools in the coming days. Thirty students earned perfect scores in ELA, 73 in Math, eight in both ELA and Math, and 14 in Science.

"We're very proud of the students for this achievement," Dr. Murray said.

Overall, Braintree students scored 82 percent in the ELA advanced/proficient category in 2013 compared to 69 percent at the state level. The average advanced/proficient score for Braintree in Math was 76 percent, compared to 61 percent statewide, and Science was 72 percent in Braintree versus 53 percent statewide.
