Deadline This Thursday for Braintree's Full-Day Kindergarten Deposits

School officials will determine any possible expansion of the full-day kindergarten program based on the number of deposits send in by Braintree families.

With less than three days remaining before the full-day kindergarten deadline, 112 deposits have been received from Braintree families, falling short so far of the 180 that the school department has said would be into all of the town's elementary schools.

Superintendent Dr. Peter Kurzberg told the School Committee on Monday night that of those 112 deposits, 45 were designated by the families as only for the potential home school classes. Once the Thursday, March 1 deadline passes and the deposits are in, he added, the department will have a much better idea of whether the program will grow next year beyond the current three classrooms at .

This year, nearly three-quarters of Braintree's incoming kindergarten families  expressed interest in some form of full-day kindergarten, prompting school officials to work on a plan that could open full-day classes at each of the town's six elementary schools. An information session was held earlier this month and deposit forms were provided to families.
