Braintree Schools to Open on Time Wednesday Morning

Alternate bus routes will remain in place throughout the week.

The following was posted by school department today:

Braintree Public Schools will have a regular opening of school on Wednesday, February 13th but will be continuing with alternate bus routes for the remainder of the week.

Clearing of sidewalks will be taking place throughout the town. Please continue to use caution when walking to and standing at bus stops. Parents are urged to continue to drive their children to school and car pool if at all possible.

Thank you for your cooperation today.

-Peter A. Kurzberg, Ph.D. Superintendent of Braintree Public Schools.

I am COMPLETELY disgusted with the way this town and the school has dealt with this blizzard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The "alternate" bus routes HAVE NOT BEEN COMMUNICATED WITH THE PARENTS SO WE HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THIS MEANS!" Also our children's SAFETY is completely at risk because no sidewalks are plowed in our area! I live in a very heavy traffic area and my son is at risk. I CANNOT drive him to school because at this time i am very very and it is not an option at this time! I find this INEXCUSABLE! Braintree should NOT open the schools until it is SAFE for every child to be at their bus stop!

I am very very sick. I apologize for the error. I went on the BHS website and there is NOTHING about alternate bus routes.

The list of alternate bus routes is on the BHS homepage as well as under 'General School Information'. The list is also on the BPS Website under 'News and Announcements'. A letter was sent home by Dr. Kurzberg dated November 28, 2012 through the backpacks at the elementary level and also attached to all December school newsletters along with the list of alternate bus routes.

I happen to live on Church Street and the stop for my son is on Elm Street. It is two lanes with a straight lane and a right turn only lane. there is snow in the right turn lane limiting the amount of space for the cars to go by. There is absolutely no room for anyone to walk to the bus stop without being in complete danger. I think it is awful. The town should have looked at the most dangerous and busy streets and plowed those sidewalks first.
