The USGS (United States Geological Survey) has a stream gauge in Braintree on the Monatiquot River at the Commercial Street Bridge. The river water level, and discharge information is posted online on their website http://waterdata.usgs.gov/usa/nwis/uv?01105583 . This site has the live information as well as an archive of the past stream gauge information dating back to when they installed the gauge in 1999. The FLOOD STAGE is 4.5 feet and was established by National Weather Service. Moderate flooding of the river occurs at at 6.0 feet and major flooding at 8.0 feet. You can sign up for email updates if the river goes into the Flood Stage or set it to a specific discharge or a specific water level height. The information can help if you want to go fishing on the river or go kaycking. Speaking of kayacking the river has access sites at Smith Beach, Watson Park as well as the New Kayak/Canoe launch on commercial street in Weymouth next to the MBTA East Braintree/Weymouth Landing Greenbush Line Commuter Rail station.
