Special Dumpsters to be Set Up for Unused Waste Barrels

The plan is to encourage more recycling by residents, benefiting the environment and town finances.

Braintree residents who have unwanted or unused trash and recycling barrels following the roll-out of the town's new waste automation program will be able to bring them to the Ivory Street transfer for disposal.

The town will have special dumpsters for that purpose at the station Oct. 7 through the end of November, according to a notice on the town website. Residents can drop-off their barrels Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

There will be an attendant on duty to direct residents to the appropriate dumpsters.

Automated pickup kicks off Sept. 30. Prior to that date, every household that has paid the annual trash fee will receive one 64-gallon trash barrel and one 64-gallon recycling barrel. The barrels will be placed in front of homes where they should be put every week.
