Snow Emergency Declared in Braintree Ahead of Thursday Storm

A storm is bearing down on the region and is expected to bring at least several inches of snow Thursday into Friday.

Mayor Joseph Sullivan has declared that a snow emergency will be in effect from Thursday, Jan. 2 at 12 p.m. to Saturday, Jan. 4 at 12 p.m. to allow crews in Braintree space to clear the snow forecast for the end of the week.

“We want to plan properly and get out in front of what is considered to be a significant storm," Sullivan said in a statement Tuesday afternoon. “This early notification will allow us to keep our streets clear and do our job.”

During the emergency, on-street parking will be banned in Braintree.

Forecasters are predicting between six and 12 inches of snow on Thursday and Friday in Eastern Massachusetts.

The storm is expected to begin during the day on Thursday and may drop 2-4 inches, followed by continuing snow overnight and the possibility of six to 12 inches by the time the storm ends Friday.
