Residents Appointed to Braintree Elder Affairs

The Town Council confirmed the appointments Wednesday night.

Mayor Joseph Sullivan has appointed three Braintree residents to the Department of Elder Affairs Board of Directors.

The residents' appointments were confirmed with unanimous votes from the Town Council Wednesday night.

Lucille A. Barton

Barton is active at St. Clare's Parish, in religious education, social activities and ministries, is a member of the town's Beautification Committee and founder of the Gardener's Guild of Braintree.

She is also a longtime Women's Club member and retired Ross Elementary School teacher, having served there 25 years.

"When my three sons were young, I was involved in their sports and Scouts activities," Barton wrote in a letter presented to the council. "When my husband was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and I become his caregiver, I also became very aware of the services provided by a variety of agencies and how many were unaware of much needed advice and help to both the patient and caregiver."

Henry N. Joyce, Jr.

Joyce is the current District 4 councilor. He declined to run again this year. He was also a park commissioner for nine years and has lived in Braintree for 35 years with his wife Mary and three children, who all graduated from Braintree High School.

"I love the town of Braintree and want to continue to help make Braintree the best town in the South Shore and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts," Joyce wrote in a letter. "The Department of Elder Affairs is also the best in the State and I would love to be part of it."

Ann M. Moore

Moore has been a volunteer at the Senior Center for several years, at the reception desk and assisting the Volunteer Coordinator. She has worked in the real estate, finance, legal, insurance and publishing fields.

She is a longtime member of the Gardener's Guild of Braintree and recently joined the Women's Club. Moore also operated a day care center in Braintree and cited her professional and social networking experience as a benefit to the board.
