An on-street parking ban will take effect at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21 to allow for effective snow removal in Braintree, and is scheduled to end at 6 a.m. Friday morning.

“Unlike the storm of several weeks ago, when the snow fell at a steady but not overwhelming pace, we are expecting several points of near blizzard conditions,” Mayor Joseph Sullivan said in a statement.

“This makes it all the more important for the on-street ban to be observed so that we may keep up with the storm even at its heaviest times.”

Braintree police initially announced the ban Tuesday morning on Twitter.

"Municipal lots are closed. Watson Park, Sunset Lake and the Met Yacht Club will be open for alternative parking. Cars that impede snow removal are subject to tow," BPD said.

Braintree and the South Shore are expected to get anywhere from eight to 15 inches of snow Tuesday into Wednesday morning, with much of it falling late Tuesday night.
