District 5 Council Candidate Leaves Race

The current District 5 Councilor is Ronald DeNapoli.

Carl Zingarelli, who announced last week that he was running for the District 5 Council seat, has dropped out of the race for medical reasons.

Zingarelli said in a recent interview that a recurring medical problem returned, exacerbated by the requirements of starting his run for Town Council and that his doctor advised him to avoid undue stress. He declined to be more specific about the condition.

Zingarelli, a longtime Braintree resident and volunteer for Babe Ruth, had been the only formally announced candidate for the seat. Ronald DeNapoli, the current district councilor, has yet to say whether he will run again. DeNapoli has missed more than 50 percent of this term’s council meetings because of what he said is a heart condition.
